My Inktober Challenge- Dragons Part 1

IMG_7639.png

Several months ago I tried the Inktober challenge and this week I'll share with you all of the drawings that I’ve made. Challenges help me draw when I feel stuck or unmotivated. I also enjoy seeing how different artists interpret same themes. This will be a 3 part post to for an easier read and because I’m still working on part 3.

Inktober was created in 2009 by Jake Parker. Since then it has become a popular yearly artists' challenge.
The rules are very simple

  1. Make a drawing in ink
  2. Post it online
You can make a pencil sketches and add hashtags to your works.
However it's not a competition, so everyone actually does whatever they really want.
The main goal is to improve skills and to draw more. Many artists draw 1 theme per day. Personally I drew only when I had some free time. So some days more, others less.
The following is the official list for the 2017 Inktober challenge. There is a new list every year.

There are many other cool lists as well, one of which is witch Inktober theme. However, I decided to stick to the official and most popular list, but I drew only dragons.
Initially in October I completed only 10 themes, the art that I'll show below. Last couple of few weeks I did my best to finally finish the challenge. I have a bad habit of starting and then abandoning projects, which I’ trying to fix.

Another popular challenge in October is Octobit. This is a pixelart October challenge. This time there were 2 different lists to pick from: cute or not cute (dark). I'll probably try it next year as I really enjoy drawing pixelart.

Let's Begin

Somnum- this dragon lives in dreams. It is a living being even though it has no material body in our dimension.

IMG_7703.png

Nix- this tiny dragon's poisonous bite can put any person into a deep slumber (or put less poetically: a coma).

IMG_7704.png

Voder- looks like an ordinary crab when depicted, but it's so massive that it is often confused for the sea bed.

Cat Dog- Inspired by a popular old cartoon.

Here are I loosened up and started experimenting with more unusual and sometimes creepy dragons. :D

IMG_7662.png

Ouroboros- eats its own tail to sustain its life, in an eternal cycle of renewal. It is an infinite cycle.

IMG_7666.png
Tuen- invisible to the most humans. It is a protector, in charge of many relic's. Most notable of which is Excalibur.

IMG_7668.png

Torepi- not to be confused with Togepi. A very shy dragon. It lives in its shelf for a couple of years after hatching.

IMG_7670.png

Grembly the crooked- its origin, habitat and motivations are unknown.

IMG_7697.png

Screech- it's just a shadow. Or is it?

IMG_7675.png

Snorlax-Pokemon; just a dragon version.

Part 2 will include more of the art and the process and tools I use. I will finish the text and post it in a couple of days. I would love to know which is your favorite dragon ^^
