How to Remember Names: Dave Bautista (Drax)

The Person

The process always starts with finding a unique feature on the person of interest. For actors with famous roles like super heroes we will use their fantastical looks of their alter egos. So for Dave we will instead imagine Drax with his fiery tattoos and fearsome daggers.

Der Prozess beginnt immer mit einem einzigartigem Merkmal der zu lernenden Person. Für Superhelden-Schaupspieler können wir ihre berühmten Rollen mit ihrem fantastischen Aussehen verwenden. Für Dave stellen wir uns daher Drax mit seinen feurigen Tattos und Dolchen vor.

First Name: Dave

Since I am reduced to only using phonetically similar images here to make them more accessible to everybody, I am often struggeling with finding something useful. But as always in the end something comes up: The name Dave sounds similar to the word deaf which is abstract and therefore could be imagined as an ear. The word dove also works really well.

Da ich hier auf phonetisch ähnliche Wörter reduziert bin, um mehr Leute anzusprechen, kämpfe ich jedes Mal ein wenig, um etwas nützliches zu finden. Im Deutschen ist es sogar noch schwieriger für Dave. Teflon, Toffee, Tafel sind einige Beispiele. Im Englischcen habe ich deaf (taub) gewählt. Da das Wort abstrakt ist, stellen wir uns dafür ein Ohr vor.

Family Name: Bautista

Although I was also thinking for a moment here, I believe I found a really cool image: body artist. Admittedly it is a bit off but it gives us the first syllable with body and gives us most of the letters from the middle. I refused to use the word autist because it is too abstract for my taste.

Obwohl ich auch hier ein wenig nachdenken musste, bin ich mit dem Ergebnis sehr zufrieden: Body Artist (gibt es genau so auch im Deutschen) klingt sehr ähnlich. Body beginnt mit einer sehr ähnlichen Silbe und Artist gibt uns den größten Teil des Namens.

The Memory Story

Drax has suffered some severe damage to his ears in his last adventure which turned him a bit deaf. So he puts some huge artifical ears on top of his regular ears to use them like an ear trumpet. There is also blood coming out of his ears which he finds awesome: He uses it to redo his fading tattoos because he is a body artist.

Drax hat einen Hörschaden bei seinem letzten Abenteuer erlitten, wodurch er etwas deaf (taub) geworden ist. Er benutzt künstliche riesige Ohren als eine Art Hörrohr. Außerdem kommt Blut aus seinen Ohren, was er großartig findet: Er nutzt es um seine verblassten Tattoos zu erneuern, da er ein Body Artist ist.
