”Vicky, you must speak to us if you want us to help you out,” my mother says. She is leaning up against the tree with her back. I am swinging back and forth on the tire that is hung by a rope connected to one of the tree’s branches. My head hurts from time to time. I’ve been out of the hospital for a couple days. ”Please, Honey, speak to me.” She begins to cry with her hands in her face as she lets herself slide down the tree onto her bottom.
”Vick. Can’t you see what you are doing to your mother?” dad asks. I’m not sure he really cares to know or would even listen to understand. He is always attempting to control the peace in the house, which means never addresses the problems that needs to be solved. ”Boy, if I find out you’re doing drugs, you’ll be out of this house and on the street faster than a gator’s jaw snapping shut.”
I cannot let them in. I must protect myself; protect them. I know what will happen if I tell. Their warning was loud and clear. I’m tough. I can handle this. - My heart hurts. I stop swinging, get off, and head back to my room without saying anything. My own tears begin streaming down my face.
