Day 21: 5 Minute Freewrite: Thursday - Prompt: Back Pain

Today is acupuncture day. I’ve been coming to the free clinic here in Silver Lake for over two years attempting to get my lower back to release from the chronic pain I’m always in. It has helped some.

Taijiquan, Qigong, and yoga have greatly helped manage the pain. I’ve been doing Yoga for over five years and Taijiquan and Qigong for over 3 years. Without these arts, I strongly believe I’d be in a wheelchair by now.

I know you’ll say, ”But you’re so young. People of your age shouldn’t be experiencing pain like that.” - Thanks 😔 ... That helps a whole lot ... Nope, still there.

I’ve been in major pain since the age of 19. It happened when my back locked up in a pool. Ever since then, the pain has been chronic.

There have been days I haven’t been able to walk. That is scary. Nothing I do releases that tension on those days. Smoking weed helps, and at times, it is the only thing that helps. Sometimes it will help the pain move and help me walk again.

I’d like to get psychotherapy and Tui Na. The former because our bodies can hold onto unresolved trauma that begins to manifest itself in the body as pain. The latter because my body is all out of whack. When I was in football hitting practice in the seventh grade, a kid and I connected shoulders and the next sound I heard was things riping inside of my own body. I couldn’t lift my arm for months!

Here are some much older posts of my I think you’d really enjoy read that pertains to this topic: Yoga and the Struggle To Heal; Yoga and the Struggle to heal: NYC last months; and my very favorite thing I’ve ever written thus far, I Would Sink Into The Ground, But What if This Happens ... - this one has resources that may interest in.
