Hurray! I did it! I finished my first game ever :>)
I must have spent an entire work day on it yesterday and quite a lot of hours the day before, but I made it. I managed to finish a more or less bug free product - I ran out of insecticide near the end - and was able to submit it to the Dinosaur Jam, before the deadline. As the latter was around 8 AM my time this morning and I didn't feel like pulling an allnighter, I was set on wrapping things up yesterday evening.
In the following screenshot of the 'submitted games' page, you see my game - Hypersensitivosaurus - at the top right.
Here's another screenshot with my game's page
as well as a link to the page where you can actually play my game:
Play Hypersensitivosaurus Here
By the way, before you give it a try. It's made to play in your browser with a keyboard. Although you could try to give it a go on your smartphone, it probably won't work very well with touchscreen.
When playing the game in your browser:
Walk around with arrow keys. Use any of the arrow keys or Enter key to read the dialogue.
Let me know how you liked it. All feedback is welcome :>)
And - in case you have Too Much Time and Not Enough to Do and you like gaming - here's a link that leads you to the page depicted on the screenshot at the start of this post. Over there, you can find and play all of the 26 Bitsy Dinosaur Jam entries ( or some of them):
I checked out - and played - a couple of the entries and I must say that - overall - I am pretty impressed by the quality. Interesting enough, one of my very favorite ones - Please Do Not Climb on the Dinosaurs! - is made by a guy who said this is - believe it or not - his first game made in Bitsy. I am impressed with what he came up with in a single week. He must be an artist and a programmer with plenty of time.
Anyhow, I know that comparing your work / skills / self to others usually doesn't make you happy, so I'm not gonna do that. I am merely excited that I finished this game, even more knowing that I had to do some last minute repairs between 10 and 11 PM yesterday night. Luckily, I was awake enough to figure out what was wrong and I could deal with these challenges pretty soon. The most annoying was that I had to play through my whole game again and again to find out if the issues were dealt with, as most of them seemed to be occurring in the final part of the game and I wasn't able to find a way to check them in the editor, where I'm making the game.
Suffice to say that, eventually, Hypersensitivosaurus version 10 seemed to be working alright.
Alright, that's it for today.
Let's see where the finishing of this game and entering the contest will lead to. I have no expectations at all, so whatever happens is a bonus.
Have an awesome day!
