Yesterday checking Peakd's time line, I came across a new contest that had been running for days, but that I didn't know about because to my surprise I didn't know about the existence of the Holos&Lotus community. First of all I was surprised to find a contest about movies and secondly I subscribed immediately to not only participate but also find out what this community was about.
The films that inspire contest is not for reviews, but to talk about how much you like that movie and why it inspired you. Emotionally I found in the contest entries, many wonderful films that I enjoyed over the years.
However, when I thought of a movie that inspired me in some way, a lot of titles came to mind. Then I began to think that maybe a movie that inspired me didn't necessarily have to be dramatic or deal with some terminal illness or a racial, historical or poignant story. There are gems of cinema that have inspired us regardless of the genre.
Ayer chequeando el time line de Peakd, me topé con un nuevo concurso que ya tenía días rodando, pero que yo no tenía conocimiento porque no para mí sorpresa no sabía de la existencia de la comunidad Holos&Lotus en primer lugar me sorprendió encontrar un concurso acerca de películas y en segundo lugar me suscribí de inmediato para no solo participar sino también descubrir de que iba está comunidad.
El concurso de films que inspiran no es para reseñas, sino para hablar de cuánto te gusta esa película y porque te inspiró. Emocionalmente encontré en las entradas del concurso, muchas películas maravillosas que disfruté a lo largo de estos años.
Sin embargo, cuando pensaba en alguna película que me haya inspirado de algún modo, un montón de títulos se me vinieron a la mente. Entonces comencé a pensar que quizás una película que me haya inspirado no necesariamente tenía que ser dramática o tratar de alguna enfermedad terminal o de una historia racial, histórica o conmovedora. Existen joyas del cine que nos han inspirado sin importar el género cinematográfico.
That's why I set out as always to create a different entry, choosing a film that has truly inspired me. That's how I came up with the idea of choosing "Legally Blonde" a 2001 movie that almost all of us have seen, but we haven't appreciated enough. First of all, this is almost the last pink movie we saw before the terrorist attacks on the twin towers.
After that event innocence was gone forever in cinema and stories like Ellie Woods stopped seeming interesting. The first thing is the plot, Ellie Woods is the typical blonde airhead that movies like to portray. She has no prejudices whatsoever, she respects everyone equally, she just happens to be rich and by the time she gets to Harvard all her classmates already hated her.
She decided to study law so as not to be separated from her boyfriend Warner (Matthew Davis) who had broken up with her. However, when she enters college she realizes that her old flame is actually a jerk and pretends to marry a dark-haired girl (who is "smart" of course) and who never took her seriously. So she sets out on her own, studying law, to become a lawyer and to everyone's surprise she begins to demonstrate much more logic than some lawyers.
The story itself is supported by an impeccable performance by Reese Witherspoon, who with her sympathy makes us fall in love from take one. But why is a story like this inspiring to me? Because even though Ellie is an implausible character, she also leaves a strong message quite ahead of her time.
Es por eso que me propuse como siempre a crear una entrada diferente, eligiendo a una película que en verdad me haya inspirado. Fue así como salió la idea de elegir a "Realmente Rubia" una película de 2001 que casi todos hemos visto, pero que no hemos apreciado lo suficiente. En primer lugar, está es casi la última película rosa que vimos antes de los atentados terroristas de las torres gemelas.
Después de ese acontecimiento la inocencia se acabó para siempre en el cine e historias como las de Ellie Woods dejaron de parecer interesantes. Lo primero es el argumento, Ellie Woods es la típica rubia cabeza hueca que el cine le gusta retratar. No tiene ningún tipo de prejuicios, respeta a todos por igual, solo que es rica y cuando llega a Harvard todos sus compañeros ya la odiaban.
Decidió estudiar derecho sólo para no separarse de su novio Warner (Matthew Davis) quién había terminado con ella. Sin embargo, al entrar a la universidad se da cuenta que su viejo amor es en realidad un idiota y pretende casarse con una chica de cabello oscuro (que es "inteligente" por supuesto) y que nunca la tomó en serio. Entonces ella se propone por sí misma, estudiar derecho, convertirse en una abogada y para sorpresa de todos comienza a demostrar mucha más lógica que algunos abogados.
La historia en sí, se sostiene gracias a una impecable interpretación de Reese Witherspoon, quién con su simpatía nos enamora desde la toma uno. Pero, ¿Por qué una historia así es inspiradora para mí?, porque a pesar de que Ellie es un personaje inverosímil también deja un mensaje contundente bastante adelantado para su época.
First of all, she destroys the barriers of misogyny when she defends her accused, then she rejects the indecent proposals of an old stalker, she also shows everyone that an independent woman can achieve anything she sets her mind to as long as she works towards her goals. Finally, she teaches her old boyfriend a lesson: she didn't need any man by her side to feel fulfilled as a woman.
She and a lot of female characters, to a greater or lesser extent make this story inspiring because they all feel undervalued by men. Ellie seems to be aware of the power that unites women and at one point thinks "we shouldn't be at war, we should be fighting together."
However, Legally Blonde is a fairy tale, blondes may be smart but those kind of privileged people rarely care about others. However, it is worth dreaming, especially at the beginning of the millennium where innocence still enveloped us in a halo of "security" that perhaps never existed.
En primer lugar, destruye las barreras de la misoginia cuando defiende a su acusada, luego rechaza las propuestas indecentes de un viejo acosador, también les demuestra a todos que una mujer independiente puede lograr cualquier cosa que se proponga siempre y cuando trabaje para conseguir sus objetivos. The world is a hostile place for those who choose a difficult path, but in the end it pays to keep your integrity. While in the real world the good guys don't always win, the bad guys aren't happy for long either, and that's balance, that's inspiration. La misma Reese, llegaría a expresar que después Legalmente Rubia, muchas chicas se habían interesado en estudiar derecho.
