Angel, Mathew and Freda were taken to EMS, along with the two strangers they had found "asleep" in the park. Two other people were found dead in an adjacent pond near the park. In the company of the latter two, a perfume-like container was found.
When the container was placed in the dark, its contents illuminated, which made the agents suspicious, but what would give more clues would be the origin of the two people found in the park. They were Russians, according to MI6 information they had been spies during the cold war and this led them to think that they were facing an assassination attempt.
The emergency services knew little about handling these people, as anyone who touched them would suffer the same symptoms and possibly die. The authorities became suspicious when they noticed the same symptoms in the people who had treated the sick, there was no longer any doubt that they were dealing with a nerve agent.
