When I purchased a Disney+ account I thought I had a vast catalog of things to watch, but as I've had time to discover what this streaming service had to offer, I've found a completely opposite reality. While it's true that Netflix is full of filler, Disney+ on the other hand has very little "new" content.
And sure, there are great titles within the platform, but they are classics. However, from time to time Disney+ releases new content is how we've gotten titles like "Wandavision" and so many others. Among those recent releases I came across a short film made by Pixar in 2020.
The short film was born under the premise of being content of "sparkshorts" a Pixar program to make animated shorts looking for young talents for that task. Steven Clay Hunter, who we know for his work in Finding Nemo and WALL-E, was in charge of writing the script under the production of Max Sachar, known among other works for Coco and Toy Story.
"Out" was the seventh of the shorts released by Pixar through sparkshorts and saw the light in May 2020. There were elements that made it special, among them that it was the first time a gay couple was the protagonist of an animated short at Disney, also one of the protagonists is Latino and it was also released at the height of the pandemic by Covid-19.
Out was one of those options that I found interesting and I made a point to watch it. Not only because it is LGBTIQ+ content but because it is a very short short film literally, it is approximately 9 minutes long 3 of which are credits. So the story is quite substantial without exceeding a certain time, that's how I decided to bring you this review to see if you are encouraged to see something new in these carnivals.

Y claro que existen títulos grandiosos dentro de la plataforma, pero son clásicos. Sin embargo, de vez en cuando Disney+ lanza nuevo contenido es así como hemos obtenido títulos como "Wandavision" y otros tantos. Entre esos estrenos recientes me encontré con un corto realizado por Pixar en 2020.
El cortometraje nacía bajo la premisa de ser contenido de "sparkshorts" un programa de Pixar para realizar cortos animados buscando a jóvenes talentos para esa tarea. Steven Clay Hunter a quien conocemos por su trabajo en Buscando a Nemo y WALL-E fue el encargado de escribir el guión bajo la producción de Max Sachar conocido entre otros trabajos por Coco y Toy Story.
"Out" fue el séptimo de los cortos lanzados por Pixar a través de sparkshorts y vio la luz en Mayo de 2020. Había elementos que lo hacían especial, entre ellos que era la primera vez que una pareja gay era protagonista de un corto animado en Disney, también uno de los protagonistas es latino y además fue estrenado en el momento más álgido de la pandemia por Covid-19.
Out fue una de esas opciones que encontré interesantes y me propuse a verla. No solo por ser contenido LGBTIQ+ sino porque es un corto muy corto literalmente, tiene una duración aproximada de 9 minutos 3 de los cuales son créditos. Así que la historia es bastante sustanciosa sin exceder un tiempo determinado, fue asi que decidí traer a ustedes está reseña a ver si se animan a ver algo novedoso en estos carnavales.
Synopsis
Greg (Kyle McDaniel) is a gay guy who is scared that his family knows his sexual orientation, that fear makes him want to move out of the house where he lives with his partner Manuel (Caleb Cabrera) to a house in the city away from his family. Manuel doesn't want to hide anymore, and because of Greg's fear, they end up fighting.
Greg's mom (Bernadette Sullivan) and his father arrive to help him with the move, so Greg is scared and takes his boyfriend out the back door and tries to hide their portrait. However, 2 mischievous creatures visit the house of our protagonists, Gigi the cat (Matthew Martin) and his inseparable companion will use magic to make Greg come to his senses.
A number of events will occur from then on, exposing the true values of family and love. But the rest you will have to discover for yourselves.
Sinopsis
Greg (Kyle McDaniel) es un chico gay al que le asusta que su familia sepa su orientación sexual, ese miedo hace que se quiera mudar de la casa donde vive con su pareja Manuel (Caleb Cabrera) a una casa en la ciudad lejos de su familia. Manuel no quiere seguir escondiéndose y ante el temor de Greg terminan por pelearse.
La mamá de Greg (Bernadette Sullivan) y su padre llegan a ayudarlo con la mudanza por lo que Greg asustado saca a su novio por la puerta trasera e intenta esconder el retrato de ambos. Sin embargo 2 traviesos seres visitan la casa de nuestros protagonistas, Gigi la gata (Matthew Martin) y su inseparable compañero usarán la magia para hacer entrar en razón a Greg.
Un sin número de acontecimientos ocurrirán a partir de entonces, dejando el descubierto los verdaderos valores de la familia y el amor. Aunque lo demás ustedes tendrán que descubrirlo.
My Opinion
Disney Pixar has wonderful stories that have marked the lives of millions of people. Toy Story for example is a gem of cinema not only because it is the first film made entirely by computer in the history of cinema, but because its story is also emotional and enhances the most beautiful values.
This time around Pixar has not lowered my expectations, with a story that is actually quite simple but with an incredible message of inclusion. Out is easy to digest, I would dare to say that it is for all audiences, because it is about acceptance rather than something purely linked to sexual orientation.
It is also inclusive to include a Latino character in its main characters, although for some it is just a "fashion" the cinema is also an agent of structural changes in society. These types of characters that identify all ethnic groups are necessary, inclusion will soon be the normality.
Mi Opinión
Disney Pixar tienen en su haber historias maravillosas que han marcado la vida de millones de personas. Toy Story por ejemplo es una joya del cine no solo porque es la primera película hecha totalmente por computadora en la historia del cine, sino porque su historia también es emotiva y realza los valores más hermosos.
En esta oportunidad Pixar no ha bajado mis expectativas, con una historia bastante sencilla en realidad pero con un mensaje increíble de inclusión. Out es fácil de digerir, me atrevería a decir que es para todo público, porque trata de aceptación más que de algo netamente ligado a la orientación sexual.
Además es inclusiva a incluir a un personaje latino en sus principales, aunque para algunos es solo una “moda” el cine también es un agente de cambios estructurales en la sociedad. Son necesarios este tipo de personajes que identifiquen a todos los grupos étnicos, la inclusión pronto será la normalidad.
Out is a wonderful bet, especially considering that until 2020 Disney had never bet on a homosexual story. Out is an incredible and very recent step, especially after the character of Elza in Frozen, became an icon for the gay community.
I like Pixar's stories, I think it's the giant of animation in the world and I like that it's breaking new ground with new stories. Coming out of the closet has never been so much fun, that's why I recommend this short film even though its message is longer and more important than its length, it's worth a look.
Out es una maravillosa apuesta, sobre todo teniendo en cuenta que hasta 2020 Disney nunca había apostado por una historia homosexual. Out supone un paso increíble y muy reciente, sobre todo después de que el personaje de Elza en Frozen, se convirtiera en un icono de la comunidad gay.
Me gustan las historias de Pixar, creo que es el gigante de la animación en el mundo y me gusta que se esté abriendo caminos a nuevas historias. Salir del closet nunca fue tan divertido, es por eso que te recomiendo este corto aunque su mensaje sea más largo y más importante que su duración, vale la pena echarle un vistazo.
