Hive is celebrating its anniversary, it's been two years since the start of this new space that has allowed so many people around the world to convert their time and talent into income. As for me, I am about to celebrate my first year on the platform and I am very pleased with all the growth and evolution I have had in these 365 days.
Hive has opened a world of possibilities that I didn't have before, an escape route to reality and although I still have a lot to learn, I'm willing to continue on the road. Today to celebrate the second anniversary of Hive I wanted to take a look at the second season of the first competition of the Drag Race franchise entirely in Spanish.
I'm talking about Drag Race Spain, which after a first season (a very successful one, by the way) has been renewed and they have made official the premiere of an imminent second season. Last June I myself did a review of the start of the first season.
Hive está de aniversario, ya son dos años desde que se inició este nuevo espacio que le ha permitido a tanta gente alrededor del mundo convertir su tiempo y su talento en ingresos. Yo por mi parte ya voy a cumplir un año dentro de la plataforma y me complace todo el crecimiento y evolución que he tenido en estos 365 días.
Hive me ha abierto un mundo de posibilidades que antes no tenía, una vía de escape a la realidad y aunque todavía me queda mucho por aprender, estoy dispuesto a seguir en el camino. Hoy para celebrar el segundo aniversario de Hive he querido echar un vistazo a la segunda temporada de la primera competencia de la franquicia Drag Race totalmente en español.
Les hablo de Drag Race España, que después de una primera temporada (una muy exitosa, por cierto) se ha renovado y han oficializado el estreno de una inminente segunda temporada. En junio pasado yo mismo hice un análisis del comienzo de la primera temporada.
It was a transcendental event for fans of this type of content and there were many expectations, first because of the name they were going to give it in the mother country. Secondly, if they were going to comply with the rules of the format or if it was going to be a more local and less international version. Finally if the participants and the jury formed by Supreme de Luxe, Javier Calvo, Javier Ambrossi and Ana Locking were going to live up to Rupaul and his original competitions.
Thank heavens Spain did not give art at its best. Art in Spanish, without leaving aside the format by which the show has become one of the favorites of the international audience. Undoubtedly the best international version that has been produced so far, Canada, the Netherlands, Great Britain, Thailand, Australia and Italy (soon France will also have its own version) have their own versions. But, to tell the truth, although all of them comply perfectly with the format of the show, some editions leave much to be desired.
Italy for example presented a very boring version, Canada and the Netherlands did very local versions. Spain showed us that it is not necessary to do a "local version" to show the traditions of the host country. But if we talk about Drag Race Spain, without a doubt the one that takes all the honors is Supreme de Luxe.
And yes, we know that Rupaul does not have and will not have a replacement, but de Luxe is my favorite host because she has that vulnerability that Rupaul lost over the years. Seeing the jury crying over the elimination of a contestant is great, it's human. Also the Javis and Ana Loking have done a great job with non-destructive criticism and different points of view.
Era un hecho trascendental en los fanáticos de este tipo de contenido y había muchas expectativas, primero por el nombre que le iban a colocar en la madre patria. Segundo si iban a cumplir las reglas del formato o más bien iba a ser una versión más local y menos internacional. Por ultimo si las participantes y el jurado conformado por Supreme de Luxe, Javier Calvo, Javier Ambrossi y Ana Locking iban a estar a la altura de Rupaul y sus competiciones originales.
Gracias al cielo España no dio arte en su máxima expresión. Arte en español, sin dejar de lado el formato por el cual el show se ha convertido en uno de los favoritos de la audiencia internacional. Sin lugar a dudas la mejor versión internacional que se ha producido hasta ahora, Canadá, Paises Bajos, Gran Bretaña, Tailandia, Australia e Italia (próximamente Francia también tendrá su propia versión) tienen sus propias versiones. Pero, a decir verdad, aunque todas cumplen a la perfección el formato del show algunas ediciones dejan mucho que desear.
Italia por ejemplo nos presentó una versión muy aburrida, Canadá y Paises bajos hicieron versiones muy locales. España por su parte nos demostró que no es necesario hacer “una versión local” para mostrar las tradiciones del país anfitrión. Pero si hablamos de Drag Race Españá sin duda la que se lleva todos los honores es Supreme de Luxe.
Y si, sabemos que Rupaul no tiene ni tendrá reemplazo, pero de Luxe es mi host favorita porque tiene esa vulnerabilidad que con los años Rupaul perdió. Ver a el jurado llorando por la eliminación de alguna participante es grandioso, es humano. También los Javis y Ana Loking han hecho un gran trabajo con críticas que no son destructivas y diferentes puntos de vista.
Season two arrives without many changes (although they did renovate the set and the workshop) because what works should be left alone, but with a lot of pressure because the level of the participants of the first season is incredible. First because we have perhaps the best winner of the entire Drag Race franchise, Carmen Farala. Secondly because there was a lot of competition, they all knew how to lip sync and finally because they were all different.
Arantxa Castilla-La Mancha, Carmen Farala, Dovima Nurmi, Hugáceo Crujiente, Inti, Killer Queen, Pupi Poisson, Sagittaria, Vulcano and The Macarena were the chosen ones in the first season, but now a new group of Queens arrive to the werk room to give long life to a franchise with a lot ahead. Ariel Rec, Diamante Merybrown, Drag Sethlas, Estrella Xtravaganza, Jota Carajota, Juriji Der Klee, Marina, Marisa Prisa, Onyx, Samantha Ballentines, Sharonne and Venedita Von Däsh come to give their all.
Diamante Merybrown already has my favoritism, because she is Latina. I think this Dominican participant is going to give us a lot of life, with his looks and Caribbean flavor. But, without a doubt, the one that awakens more expectation among the viewers is Ruben Errebeene who was the first youtuber to do reviews in Spanish of Rupaul's Drag Race and who now arrives to the competition with his alter ego Ariel Rec.
La temporada dos llega sin muchos cambios (aunque si renovaron el plató y el taller) porque lo que funciona debe dejarse tranquilo, pero si con mucha presión porque el nivel de las participantes de la primera temporada es increíble. Primero porque tenemos a la que quizás es la mejor ganadora de toda la franquicia Drag Race, Carmen Farala. Segundo porque había mucha competencia, todas sabían hacer lip sync y por ultimo porque todas eran diferentes.
Arantxa Castilla-La Mancha, Carmen Farala, Dovima Nurmi, Hugáceo Crujiente, Inti, Killer Queen, Pupi Poisson, Sagittaria, Vulcano y The Macarena fueron las elegidas en la primera temporada, pero ahora un nuevo grupo de Queens llegan al werk room darle larga vida a una franquicia con mucho por delante. Ariel Rec, Diamante Merybrown, Drag Sethlas, Estrella Xtravaganza, Jota Carajota, Juriji Der Klee, Marina, Marisa Prisa, Onyx, Samantha Ballentines, Sharonne y Venedita Von Däsh vienen a darlo todo por el todo.
Diamante Merybrown tiene ya mi favoritismo, porque es latina. Creo que este participante dominicano nos va a dar mucha vida, con sus looks y el sabor caribeño. Pero, sin duda el que despierta mayor expectación entre los espectadores es Rubén Errebeene quien fue el primer youtuber en hacer reviews en español de Rupaul’s Drag Race y que ahora llega a la competencia con su alter ego Ariel Rec.
Drag Sethlas is another one that has me excited. And is that the drag of the Canary Islands is very representative and in the first season Drag Vulcano was (unfairly) the second eliminated, so I think that adds a lot of pressure to this participant who by the way is the current winner of the famous carnivals Drag de Canarias.
Drag Sethlas es otra que me tiene emocionado. Y es que el drag de Canarias es muy representativo y en la primera temporada Drag Vulcano fue (injustamente) la segunda eliminada, así que creo que eso le añade mucha presión a este participante que por cierto es el ganador actual de los famosos carnavales Drag de Canarias.
Of the other participants the truth is that I have very few references, but I hope that Onyx, who seems to be a conceptual queen, will do very well in the course of the season. Others that can give surprises are Jiriji Der Klee and Marina, but everything remains to be seen. Estrella Xtravanza may also be someone to watch out for, although with her first look she leaves a lot to be desired and I hope she is not the first to be eliminated.
De las demás participantes la verdad es que tengo muy pocas referencias, pero espero que a Onyx que pareciera ser una reina conceptual le vaya muy bien en el trascurso de la temporada. Otras que pueden dar sorpresas son Jiriji Der Klee y Marina, pero todo está por verse. Estrella Xtravanza quizás también sea alguien de cuidado, aunque con su primer look deja mucho que desear y espero que no sea la primera eliminada.
Anyway, there is still a week to go to see the queens in action, but we have already been told that the first guest will be gay icon Gloria Trevi. En fin, todavía falta una semana para ver a las reinas en acción, pero ya nos han adelantado que la primera invitada será el icono gay Gloria Trevi. Esto ha generado mucha polémica sobre todo por el pasado de la mexicana, pero me parecen puras patrañas nadie es más conveniente que ella, para el show. A mí no me hacían falta razones para sintonizar Drag Race España, pero tener a Gloria le agrega otra razón más por la cual verlo.
La cuenta regresiva ha iniciado y nuevas canciones, memes y reinas que darán todo por el todo para ganar 30.000 euros y la oportunidad de ser la reina de España por un año nos esperan desde ya.
