Aquella noche como cada jueves me tocaba la guardia en la enfermería del Hospital Saint George, los pasillos estaban solos. Así transcurrían mis jornadas entre el silencio y el ruido de las ambulancias. Mis rondas nocturnas siempre terminaban en el banco de sangre, por una u otra razón.
El reloj se apresuraba a marcar la media noche, mi mente divagaba entre las camillas rechinantes y los quejidos de algunos pacientes. Al terminar mis pasos me guiaron hasta el final, fue allí cuando mis ojos atisbaron aquel cuerpo endemoniado que consumía a placer la sangre guardada en aquel lugar. Sentí miedo cuando vi su rostro, era pálido, sin vida y de un tenebroso parecer, su boca era roja como el carmesí y la sangre surcaba entre las comisuras que marcaban su paso con desdén. Sentí pánico y repulsión pero quedé estático como si no pudiera moverme.

That night, as every Thursday, it was my turn to be on duty in the infirmary of Saint George Hospital, the corridors were alone. That's how my days passed between the silence and the noise of the ambulances. My nightly rounds always ended at the blood bank, for one reason or another.
The clock was ticking towards midnight, my mind wandered between the creaking gurneys and the moans of some patients. When I finished my steps guided me to the end, it was there when my eyes glimpsed that demonic body that consumed with pleasure the blood stored in that place. I felt fear when I saw his face, it was pale, lifeless and of a gloomy appearance, his mouth was as red as crimson and the blood furrowed between the corners that marked his step with disdain. I felt panic and revulsion but I remained static as if I could not move.
Mis piernas habían decidido no moverse de aquel lugar, así que me dispuse a detallar a aquel vampiro con increíble precisión. Para mí sorpresa llevaba el mismo uniforme que yo, era de mi estatura, en su mano derecha tenía una crucifijo y noté que parecía estar absorto en su rutina, como si ya conociera aquel sitio.
No pude darme cuenta cuánto tiempo estuve allí, hasta que por fin el notó mi presencia. Una mirada de inconfundible de placer pude vislumbrar, su boca esbozaba una sonrisa de satisfacción inexplicable que al instante repudié.
Entonces pude correr a pasos raudos y sin detener. Cuando pude estar lejos, al fin pude comprender que aquel ser a quien temía y de quien huía no era otro que mi propio ser, satisfaciendo una necesidad que quizás no debía tener. Entonces sentí asco de mí y de la transformación que a medianoche yo solía padecer.
My legs had decided not to move from that place, so I set out to detail that vampire with incredible precision. I could not realize how long I was there, until he finally noticed my presence. I caught a glimpse of an unmistakable look of pleasure, and his mouth wore a smile of inexplicable satisfaction that I instantly repudiated.
Then I was able to run quickly and without stopping. When I could be far away, I could finally understand that the being I feared and from whom I was fleeing was none other than my own self, satisfying a need that perhaps I should not have. Then I felt disgusted with myself and the transformation I used to undergo at midnight.
Al fin dilucide en si debía ceder ante el placer que generaban aquellos actos indecibles o por el contrario debía luchar con mi propio yo, esperando algún día la redención encontrar para mí propia alma y para mí propio ser.
At the end I elucidated whether I should give in to the pleasure generated by those unspeakable acts or on the contrary I should fight with my own self, hoping one day to find redemption for my own soul and for my own being.
