So I had been sick for more than a week now. I knew there was something wrong with that "Chaat" I ate 💩
Anyways, I am back on track now and back with my favourite post for the week! (I had written this down almost 12 hours ago but couldn't post it in time, well, better late than never).
Enjoy the music!
I started a new tag:
#mondaymixtape
Quick rules for anyone who wants to participate in the #MondayMixtape tag:
- Make a post with #mondaymixtape as your first tag
- Post links to 5 songs you like
- Tell us why you like them. Point out features that surprised you, stuff you learnt from the song, etc etc.
I shall do my best to Upvote all #mondaymixtape posts 😇
I think is a great way for everyone to discover new music!
So without further ado, my 5 picks for this week:
1. Happiness Frequency - Binaural Beats Relaxing Music
So I was just lying in bed being sick and all and I heard this in the living room. My father-in-law who was visiting had found his way on YouTube to this video. And I have to say, though I had heard of Binaural recordings and Binaural Beats music, I had never actually heard it. Now I am not sure whether the science works, but it made me feel really good. Call it placebo effect - believe it and it works. So since a week, I put this on every morning while going about our daily routine and the atmosphere in the house remain largely happy and calm. Give it a shot, there are many more such recordings on this YouTube channel.
2. Toxic - Britney Spears - FUNK cover (feat. Kenton Chen)
This is the funkiest fun cover of Toxic I've heard. I honestly don't much like the original song (though it was produced by Mark Ronson). But people do lot of sarcastic covers of the song and they are really fun to watch. But this one was next level! The drummer and the vocalist are on fire!
Scary Pockets are fast becoming my favourite cover band on YouTube.
3. Fun.: We Are Young ft. Janelle Monáe
This is the second song from 'FUN' that I had heard (first one was Carry On - which is another favourite of mine). It took me by surprise - all the ups and downs - tension and release used so craftily. No wonder this won song of the year at the Grammys in 2013. It still is an awesome song to listen to in 2018. The video is another reason I love this song. Such a simple setting used in a way you would have never imagined!
4. OCEAN - John Butler - 2012 Studio Version
If you play the guitar and do not know about this piece - shame on you! :) No really, this is like a masterpiece. It has such a happy vibe like you are really just sitting at the beach around a campfire. And it becomes so euphoric towards the end! Great one to listen on a Monday.
Love how he uses the effects and volume control for dynamics. And the recording captured is brilliant.
5. John Mayer - Ain't No Sunshine - Live at the Crossroads Guitar Festival 2010
John Mayer is arguably one of the greatest guitarists of our time! This is the best cover of this song I have heard. The guitar solos are such a joy to listen to - it could go on forever and I can keep listening. And that snare sound - Fuck! Killer.
And play special attention to the bass - Pino Palladino is a god at the bass!
You can even post in the comments and let me know.

Have a great week!
