Plants of the Popo Agie River - Arrowleaf Balsamroot - Wondrous Wyoming

Early June, we visited the Popo Agie (pronounced poe-POE-zhuh) River near Lander, Wyoming.
I love seeing the different kinds of wildlife in each unique area I visit. Here, the Arrowleaf Balsamroot was abundant, covering vast swathes of the ground in bright yellow.

Of particular interest, to me, are the uses of this plant.
Many are described by this Herbal Country Doctor.
Some examples from this site:
Food - all parts are edible, especially in the early spring.

• The flower stems can be peeled and eaten
• The seeds are rich in oil and nutrients
• The root can be made into flour or "coffee."

Medicinal

• disinfectant
• expectorant
• anti-inflammatory
• burns and wounds
• eczema
• bruises
• antifungal
• sore throat (as tea)
• cough medicine
