Week on Hive

22 of 39 tracked posts made it to this week's issue of the "Week on Hive" roundup.

In the Spotlight

Hive Thrive Podcast with Blocktrades as Guest

@blocktrades was invited to the Hive Thrive podcast this week, which is both a good thing and good timing, because he doesn't often share his opinions visibly about various Hive matters other than core development.

He talked a lot about the DHF, why it is the way it is, and if he thinks it's good the way it is now, as the hosts and audience's questions piled up in this area, as expected. He also touched the aspect of his vote on the Return Proposal. Talked more at large about that and other topics in the part that wasn't recorded and which I partially caught live.

At some point, he said he doesn't focus on how to improve the current DHF, but... that his approach is how to create something new from scratch.

There was a lot more talk about the DHF in its current form, and how can things improve...

Beyond this subject, he responded to an important question regarding how he sees Hive grow, what are his (team's) next major focuses on Hive, "wen" smart contracts, if devs see ideas being thrown around in the community, how can the community make an impact, and so on.

He also mentioned a couple of times the other major project he is building, which involves building a reputation system and way to easier reach decisions/find qualified opinions in a decentralized system, from my understanding. This project is not Hive-related, but Hive could benefit from it.

Blocktrades also mentioned publicly that he spends annually on Hive development more than the entire DHF proposals combined, and gave a rough estimate in the non-recorded part, and it's a BIG number (for Hive). He also repeated he won't pay for Hive development forever, something he said with another occasion too.

You should listen to the podcast, much better than my summary.

Hive Debit DHF Proposal

Hive Debit to me has a high-impact marketing potential and new or enhanced use cases for HBD (and as seen in the proposal, for Hive). I thought it deserved the spotlight. Check it out!

Marketing / Awareness / Branding

Wow! Almost 2 Million Views of Hive Posts from Reddit in February!

About half an hour after I published last week's news update I came across this gem.

It's incredible how well things are going for Hive posts over on Reddit lately. Of course, our content does often add value to Reddit, by adding information or stirring up conversations.

Speaking of that, note that now OCD shares upvotes for sharing on Reddit.

When Banking System Breaks...

... a crypto alternative is good to have. He pointed out an example when the banking system took "a nap" for several hours (halted), while businesses couldn't make transactions. During that time crypto (Hive, in particular), worked just fine. Very good short presentation by @sorin.cristescu!

Happy Meal with CBRS

Noo, not the kind from McDonald's! But I'm sure if they start taking in crypto, their crypto-customers won't mind...

I just said that because the CBRS guys seem always happy and cheerful (despite the kind of awful weather, if you asked me, lol), and paid for their soup and tequila shots with HBD. Nice video came out of it!

Happy Customer Supermarket Promotes on Facebook

If you missed my previous mentions of this new business opened with Hive earnings by @focusnow, know that he started to promote it on Facebook to its nearby area. He already got 7 new customers this way in a short time (links to all their profiles are included in the post). Note that he presents Distriator with a slideshow and projector right there inside his supermarket.

Governance / Development / Dapps / Education

Bitcoin Social Account on Hive

@starkerz shows us how to create a bitcoin social account on Hive, if you want to, step by step. For Hivers, you need to install a wallet and fund it with 5000 satoshi, those are the most important steps.

Inleo Gearing Toward More Open-Source...

... we find out from their impromptu AMA from yesterday.

I'm not sure if they already open-sourced their onboarding options, as described in the latest iteration of their DHF proposal, but certainly developers outside their team took a look at what they were doing there and gave them some pointers, which they took, and seems like they made the necessary changes. Point for open source and collaborations, compared to closed source.

Missed a WordPress Plugin for Hive?

For anyone who did, this is at the beginning, but Rome wasn't built in a day either.

Free Servers for Hive Projects...

@hivedatacenter is offering free servers for small or test Hive projects. Check out the details of their offer, also note that they prefer to remain anonymous and you need to be careful what you put on those servers as one of the comments points out.

Something New from Waivio

Waivio created a message bot for boosting engagement. While they describe how it works in their post, I didn't understand one part. What does the message bot send? Comments to target user's posts? A memo with a link to a post that describes the challenge? In-app messages in Waivio (if there is such thing)? The last one would obviously be much cleaner for the blockchain, and, as @grampo presented, very effective in their experiment. Depending on how it was implemented, this could be built upon to send out a series of posts at scheduled times/dates, instead of just one.

Games

Rising Star Updates

Rising Star updated ranking to be highly skewed toward unique cards, and also introduced a new Pawn Shop, where people could send their cards with luck on them. The player sending the most amount of luck wins the extremely limited edition card in the Pawn Shop (rotated after a minimum of 20 days), others will get PAWNIES (points) to use on other cards that will be added. Here are the details.

Splinterlands Updates

One exciting news comes from X, where Matt, the co-founder of Splinterlands, announced that he bought 7m more SPS, being so bullish for what's to come. That certainly can boost the confidence of everyone else! Oh, and he also stepped down as CEO, a position he really hated. Dave McCoy is now the new CEO of Splinterlands.

From a discord update, we find out that from Land 1.75 onward totem fragments can only be found by harvesting Research Huts, Castles or Keeps.

If you are a Guild member, make sure you check out these polls to vote on the frays composition after Chaos Legion drops out of Modern.

Also from discord, in Arcade Colony, we learn about a few updates to MoonKarts, including a matchmaking penalty system for players who intentionally abandon 3 races in a row, who will receive a 4-hour temporary matchmaking ban. This apparently has become a problem, as players played multiple accounts simultaneously and alts were dropping out of the race to favor the main account.

Speaking of Moonkarts, the infographic contest is over and we have the winners.

PeakMonsters Allows You to Stake Your Licenses w/o Running Your Node

PeakMonsters added the functionality to stake you licenses on their website and collect rewards, even if you don't want to run your own SPS node.

Speaking of running SPS nodes, quite a few people announced their nodes through posts these days. Make sure you check them out if you are a SPS stakeholder and cast your votes.

New Splinterlands Card Rental Service

Nightshade.gg is a new card rental service for Splinterlands owned by @doloknight. I haven't had time to look at it, but I've seen a discord announcement that it was added to Splinterlands links of 3rd parties (while splex.gg was removed).

Week in the Crypto World

Crypto Summit at White House TODAY

Thanks to @resiliecia's post from a few days ago I became alert that this was coming. This article is also pre-event, so either check the news later on, or tomorrow to see what happened.

Funny, BTC is down 4-ish percent now. If it goes up 10% after that, should we be happy, or wait for the next day? 😂
