High above,
in the corner
of the barn
in the dead
of night, a
spider web.
Below, opossums
avoids predators by
playing dead, giving
off the scent
of death which
detours the hungry
creatures twice its
small size.
Food drops
from the spider-web
covered with ants
that sought to
free their food
from the spider
and take it
back to their
home for the
developing larva.
Opossums, after
danger has passed,
stirs and rises,
sniffing the air
with its pink
nose held up
above the straws
of hay.
Ants, undeterred
by the fall,
wait for a
massive fleet to
help continue stripping
the flesh and
wings and legs
and arms from
the grasshopper before
the daybreak.
Seeing that
the coast is
clear, the opossums
stampedes the ants,
crushing them beneath
its soft feet,
ants bight to
no avail, as
it tears away
from the ants
their meal.
