"It was an adventure!" I said half-shouting. My response was instinctive. The sweat poured down my glass as I ran my finger down the side.
Sally stood up and said, " I want to commit suicide. I don't feel right." Her hands gripped and released her dress, flowers covered the bottom where she was grabbing and releasing.
"You've got to keep holding on."
"To what?"
The tent swayed in the wind, the walls pressed up against my head forcing me to bend my neck.
The bank at the river was covered with tall grass that hid the lion. My shot ended the things life before it was about to pounce on Sally's back and have itself a nice meal, which would have left me alone in the hills.
"You're safe here." My voice only agitated her more.
"Safe? Safe. I feel about as safe as a man falling to his death without a parachute." She grabbed her drink from the table and gulp down the liquor inside. She got there, drunk, about five minutes faster than the speed limit would allow.
"You're acting like a horny teenager. No one is going to find out."
"You left a trail of blood that leads back to this tent. What will you tell the ranger when he shows up."
"The truth."
She poured herself another glass full of vodka, skipping on the club soda and lime. Her nervousness didn't shake me any. I've come close to death many times. I knew it was best for me to let her process the emotions but I know that the drinking is going to cover this up for the night, which might not be a bad thing.
"What if that thing comes at me in my dreams? What if it had babies? How am I going to live with myself? I need the city. Can we leave, now, right now."
"No." I wasn't saying no to be cruel, it was just that the driver would not be back for another week and she knew this before she agreed to come on this adventure with me regardless of the dangers. She huffed and then, with one gulp, empty the contents of her glass.
The blue headband hanging on the wall of the tent fell down, floating like a half crumpled up piece of paper as it did. I stood up from my chair, walked over, picked it up, and brought it up to her face.
"This, adventure, is what we came here for." I dried the tears that started to trickle down her face. "We came to challenge our boundaries, our beliefs. Things are after us all the time whether we know it or not. Death is always a half a step behind. You came closer than most today and that is okay. It will make you stronger.
"I don't feel like this story is going to end well." She plopped down on the bed as if resigning herself to a fate that hadn't arrived yet. She took the pillow, covered her face, and screamed.
I went back to my chair. She never did like to be comforted, something to do with the way her father treated her always made it uncomfortable for her when I would touch her in a time like this. Best to just let her go through the motions. The day would be better tomorrow after she has had a good night's sleep.

Tell A Story To Me, And Win 5 SBD! Writing Contest - Kind of random when it comes out but don't worry. You will have two weeks to complete your work of art from the given prompt. Have fun!
Haiku - These are coming out every couple days or so. If you struggle with rhymes, no worries. Haikus don't have to rhyme. All you need to make a haiku is five syllables on the first, seven syllables in the second line, and again back to five syllables for the last line. So easy it makes me think I'm being super productive. LOL
Mizu No Oto - Every Image Has Its Haiku Contest - By reading the title, you should be able to guess how this haiku contest works. You're given an image and you write. I've really enjoyed this contest because there are people here who've actually gone to classes to learn how to write haiku's; so if you want, you also can learn how to write quality haikus from reading the comments and critiques they and others give.
Micro-Fiction Writing Contest - This is a fun challenge. You get two-hundred and fifty words to tell a story or vignettes. Here is a great post that will explain the difference between the two concepts. Here is another post explanation of what a story is. Good luck, Brave Story Writer!
Vocab-Ability 1x1 - What happens is you are given a list of roots and the words they can be found in. You create a sentence using those words and post in the comment section of the post. Your upvote for your creative work will come soon. One of the best ways to increase your vocabulary is by doing these 10-15 minute exercises almost daily. What craziness will you create?
