Part One of ”The Stall”

Part Two of ”The Stall”
”He considered all songs. Emily rolled her eyes and spit on the floor,” the worker said out loud as I came out of the stall, seeing her stuff another bite full bight of her sandwich into her mouth.
I had the biggest smile on my face for all the world to see, and I didn’t care who was looking.
”You see, honey, I’m not such a bad decider of what clothes go with what,” she says, interpreting the pure joy on my face as her being some highly paid and sought-after fashion artist of the highest caliber.
”Right ... Mom. Uh ... great clothes.” I could feel a bead of sweat drip down my face. ”Can we get out of here now. I’d like some time to go hang with my friends.”
”That won’t be happening tonight. You have school work.”
”Ya, right. I’ll do that,” I said as I rolled my eyes.
”Are you okay, my son. There is sweat dripping down your face.”
”Just hot in here, that is all.”
I handed the ticket I had gotten from the working back to her. She could see the arching smile on my face. She looked me up and down. Finding nothing else appearing out of place, she goes back to listening to her conversation and says, ”He turned the corner and it felt as if his heart fell to the floor.”
”You sure do talk really loud,” I say as I begin walking away. She ignores me.
Mom is directly behind me as we make our way to the cashier and then to the front door. My heart beats as if struck by lightning with every inch I make closer to the door. A little more sweat becomes like a cascading waterfall happening only on my face. Get to the door and you’ll be home free! I tell myself.
What is mom doing? Why does she need to check on something?
Oh! You’ve got to be kidding me! ”Mom, can we hurry up and get out of this store?”
”What is your rush?”
”I want to get started on my homework.”
”Didn’t you just ask if you could go out with your friends and now you want to do homework? What is going on with you sweetie?”
”Nothing is wrong with me,” I said, my feet drag against the floor as I followed her to the cage in the middle of the store. Why can we not just hurry!!! I hate it when she does this to me. ”Mom, there is nothing else to get. You’ve been stuck in this place for like hours. I’m tired. I want to go home.”
