There were snakes in the old stone place, but the grass grew so green that the wooden floorboards could hardly be seen. The snakes we falling from the roof, plopping to the ground. After a quick moment, they gathered their senses and slithering through the thick grass.
Gram took note of the viper's stripes of black and midnight blue, which shimmered under the light of the dim moon.
One of the vipers spit venom when it hit the ground, hitting one of its own kind. That snake's skin started to melt like a tender piece of meat falling from a bone.
Grabbing the broom, Gram shuffled a few of the snakes hard to the side as he darted to the stars, jumping at the moment before his heel was caught by the fangs of a viper.
"Caller, are you there?" Suddenly, another voice came on the line.
Gram reached for his phone when he was against the wall. Just before he answered it, a viper came out of the wall, making him drop his phone as he swung the broom stick and avoided being bitten.
The phone lay beneath him in the think grass, the light illuminated the viper's reflective skin.
The thought of never saying good-bye to Sharrin flashed acrossed his mind. He willed himself to stay focused.
The spiraling steps were crawling with the snakes. He swept them over the side, their bodies wigging to and fro before the heavy thud when they hit the floor.
We'll be together when you come back this time was the last thing the Sharrin had said to him before falling into a coma. Again, he forced himself to stay focus. His escape was only a few more feet ahead.
A large picture of the Peanut's comic strips was painted on the walls. Out of the eyes, the snakes poured out like tears after a baby has lost its pasiphier.
She had a cold. He had to come to the island for the venom. He didn't expect he would be left on the island to be eatten be these poisonous things around him. Pirates.
He burst through the door that led to the roof. The snakes seemed to take a second to look at their meal, their eyes glowing in the dim moon light.
Gram dodged a few brave ones that tried striking at him first. He jumped from barrel to barrel never knowing if it was going to cave in from being rotten.
He dodged a snake that came up from one of the barrels by the meer chance of his broom handle being in the way of its trajectory.
There, ahead of him, the glider.
He reached the glider, quickly stapping himself up. Taking hold of the control bar, he ran as fast as he could off the roof.
"I'm coming home, baby," he said aloud.

twenty-four-hour short story - You gotta be quick to get this one posted in time. He posts the contest on Sunday (usually) and ends it about 48 hours later. This contest has a 2000 word limit.
Finish the Story Contest - The contest begins on Wednesday (usually) and ends 5 days later. This contest will test your write skills with something a little different each week. Plenty of time to write something around the 500 word mark.

Haiku - These are coming out every couple days or so. If you struggle with rhymes, no worries. Haikus don't have to rhyme. All you need to make a haiku is five syllables on the first, seven syllables in the second line, and again back to five syllables for the last line. So easy it makes me think I'm being super productive. LOL
Mizu No Oto - Every Image Has Its Haiku Contest - By reading the title, you should be able to guess how this haiku contest works. You're given an image and you write. I've really enjoyed this contest because there are people here who've actually gone to classes to learn how to write haiku's; so if you want, you also can learn how to write quality haikus from reading the comments and critiques they and others give.
Micro-Fiction Writing Contest - This is a fun challenge. You get two-hundred and fifty words to tell a story or vignettes. Here is a great post that will explain the difference between the two concepts. Here is another post explanation of what a story is. Good luck, Brave Story Writer!
