"Aren't you risking your reputation by coming here?" She frowned.
The doctor look at her, half-interested what she looked like underneath her gown. Ignoring her question, letting her disappointment fade into the backgroundof his mind, he said, "I presume this is who is coming."
The doctor, Henry Monroe, had been moved repeatedly from mental hospital to mental hospital for unhealthy practices. She was going off of what she read in the papers. Seeing him face to face gave her the creeps.
"That is," she said.
"Good. This establishment will be under my direction. I am to know everything that is going on within these walls. Is this understood?" His eyes peered up and his eyeglass reminded her of snowglobes.
"It will be as you see fit, Doctor," she frowned again and turned to look at the clock. Only eight more hours to go.
Peter was the first to sit in the doctor's chair. He was instructed to open his mouth so that Henry could stick a syringe in his mouth. When the syringe was in, Henry, with his hand underneath the jaw bone of Peter, emptied the white fluid into Peter's mouth and then told Peter to swallow. Peter swallowed.
"She comes for the food," he said.
She knew he had lost his insanity before coming here but he wasn't this bad before the doctor showed up. She watched as Peter fumbled with the padded bars that wrapped around the steel bars. He seemed to find it soothing. "Perhaps a childhood memory," she thought.
"She comes for the food," he repeated, this time pointing to the corner.
Deciding to play along, she said, "I'm not going to eat that."
"You are the food," said Henry from behind her.
She turned around. She couldn't believe what he just said. She noticed his cocky stance.
"You're not funny and I'd like to know what you gave him the other day." Before she got to the door, the doctor slammed it shut. "Hey, what is the big idea?"
"Be nice, my pet," said the Doctor to Peter, looking straight through her.
"Open the door, Henry." She tapped on the glass. He smiled at her.
"She is the food," said Peter.
That screeching bird came to visit her every day since the day she had to end Peter's life. She didn't understand it, but after that, she began to eat his flesh. She stopped when her stomach couldn't hold anymore. His body waited for the next feeding.
The doctor watched from behind the glass, taking notes, watching, talking into his recorder. He liked this one. Marie showed promise and it had happened by accident.
Marie stroked the padded bars with her hands. She enjoyed the feeling of the plastic-like material. She knew that Henry was watching, she could feel his eyes on the back of her neck.
Feeding off of Peter's body had given her powers that she was just now beginning to feel. Her awareness of her surrounds increased. She silenced the screeching bird with her mind. She could tell the doctor thought nothing of it. She heard the scratch of his pen and made out what he wrote: "This is finally a success. The infected is not falling into regression. I will release her into the night."

Micro-Fiction Writing Contest - This is a fun challenge. You get two-hundred and fifty words to tell a story or vignettes. Here is a great post that will explain the difference between the two concepts. Here is another post explanation of what a story is. Good luck, Brave Story Writer!
