En este post os hablaré de un castillo al que hemos ido varias veces y que ¡¡¡Cada vez nos gusta mas!!!
Es el castillo Románico de Loarre.
In this post I'll talk about a castle we've visited many times and... every time we go we like it more!!!
The Romanic Castle of Loarre
El castillo fue construido en el siglo XI por orden del Rey Sancho III y está situado en la provincia de Huesca (pueblo de Loarre). De esta época datan la mayoría de las edificaciones: el edificio real, la capilla, el torreón de la Reina, el patio de armas, las estancias militares y de servicio y la torre del homenaje.
The castle was built in the XI century by the king Sancho III and is located in the province of Huesca (in the town of Loarre). The most of the buildings date from this period: the royal building, the chapel, the Queen's Fortified Tower, the weapons room, the soldiers rooms and the Tower Keep.
Más tarde, el Rey Sancho Ramírez mando hacer una ampliación, dejándolo tal y como lo conocemos en la actualidad, a excepción de las murallas que son de finales del siglo XIII.
After that, the King Sancho Ramirez ordered the castle expansion, letting it as nowadays we can see it, with the exception of the outside walls, built in the XIII century.
Aquí debajo tenéis las increíbles vistas desde la parte alta del castillo. La guía dijo que en días despejados era posible ver la basílica del Pilar de Zaragoza (que está a unos 100 km de distancia)... muy buena vista hay que tener...
In the picture below you can see the amazing views from the top of the castle. The guide told us that in a clear day it's possible to see the Basilica of our Lady of Pilar (about 100 km far from there)... you'll probably need a pretty good eyesight...
El Castillo de Loarre está considerado como la fortaleza románica mejor conservada de toda Europa, bueno, del mundo, ya que no hay románico fuera de Europa...
The Castle of Loarre is considered the best conserved Romanic Fortress in all Europe, well, in the world, given that there's no Romanic Art outside Europe...
Esa es la razón por la que ha sido escenario de varias películas. La más conocida la superproducción de Hollywood del director Ridley Scott "El Reino de los Cielos" con actores de renombre como Orlando Bloom, Eva Green, Liam Neeson o Jeremy Irons.
That's the reason why this castle has been setting of many films. The most important was the hollywood blockbuster of Ridley Scott 'Kingdom of Heaven', with such important actors as Orlando Bloom, Eva Green, Liam Neeson or Jeremy Irons.
