The Steem price has its ups and downs. It settled around 16c for a while, but is now climbing again. My account value dropped after the previous peak a month ago, but is looking better now.
It's back over 20c and Steem is back in the top 20
It will be interesting to see what the presence of a major hacking group has. They have tweeted a Steemit post that is getting thousands of views. Maybe that will bring in more people. Steemit growth has been sluggish lately, especially compared to Twitter clone Mastodon. This isn't such a radical site compared to Steemit. Okay, so it has a pretty site that updates in real time, but the federated service has been done before (e.g. identi.ca). The publicity they have had has taken them way past Steemit's user numbers (currently 269k vs 147k), and it's gaining tens of thousands per day compared with a few hundred here. That shows how little is needed to go viral. You are also at the whim of whoever runs the instance you are on. They can moderate you to nothing.
We live in interesting times. Steemit is having issues with flagging and a selected few accounts ruling the Trending page. That's a price we pay for freedom.
