Welcome to another episode of How to Remember Names. Today we are memorizing Benedict Cumberbatch. For older episodes please check the footer of this post.

For Germans: Ich nehme an ihr könnt alle Englisch lesen. Von daher habe ich für euch lediglich ein paar Anmerkungen zugefügt, die speziell für Deutsche gedacht sind. Ansonsten gilt natürlich das gleiche Prinzip wie in Englisch.

The Person
We are looking for a unique feature in Benedict's face or body. I find his beard, his eyes mand his hair interesting to use. But since we know him as Doctor Strange from the Marvel movie, we will use this magical association. Imagine him with his red cape doing some magic in mid-air. We have found our anchor to connect the following keywords with it.

Benedict
Both his names are difficult. It took me a moment to come up with fitting images. If you are running in a situation like this in real life, just relax and take your time. Try to repeat the name while you are looking for a phonetical similar word. Anyhow, for our magician I have settled for the obvious and closest association: a benedictine monk. I am not 100% happy about this keyword because when you remember the image of a monk you don't necessarily associate the benedictines. But on the other hand they are a well known group and it should somehow work. Concentrate on the clothing and the hood will make your image very clear.
German: Im Deutschen können wir genau das gleiche machen, da Benediktiner auch bei uns existiert. Easy!

Cumberbatch
This is even more difficult than the first name. But on the other hand no name is impossible to memorize. My first thoughts were "cum" and "bitch" (sorry, but that is just phonetically very similar and creates a powerful image). Nevertheless, I wanted to find something more appropriate for him. Cucumber also came to mind but that begins differently which is ok but not ideal. The final word I chose is cumbersome. That is pretty abstract but I think I found a good image for that with this overloaded bike.

The Story
Now that we have gathered all images we begin to connect them together. This is my story: Doctor Strange is disguising himself as a benedictine monk, with the hood covering most of his face. He casts a spell to make a bike appear but his skill is yet not good enough for a proper bike. So he summons a fully overloaded and cumbersome moto. He drives away on the shaky vehicle.
To improve the story you can ask questions like "why" and answer them with an invented reason. You could ask "why is he disguising himself as a monk?". The answer could be anything. When I think about that I would say because he is hiding from his enemies who want to harm him. Giving your story a logical background like this will make it even more memorable. But this optional since visualizing the story above is often already enough.
