When I first discovered Steemit, the concept of receiving monetary rewards for blogging was completely new to me. One of the first things that came to mind was ‘Gee, all those photographs stored in my ‘pictures’ folder finally hold some value… hmm’.

Somehow, I don’t think I was the first nor will I be the last, to head directly to said folder in an effort to reconsider each and every photo contained in my ever-increasing yet unappreciated photography collection. And boy, did I find some hidden gems.

Today’s story was prompted by the images shown below which were originally created in 2009 as ‘creative art’ entries to the Community Competitions held on a website previously known as Worth 1000. The current site is still running Competitions however they are now part of DesignCrowd.com. Thankfully, the site has kept an online archive of their past contests however it appears that the source images have been removed.

Unfortunately, most of my work from the previous 10-15 years was stored on a 1TB external hard drive which was stolen along with my desktop computer back in 2014. (not to mention all my software, such as Creative Suite, AutoCAD and Revit) so you can imagine how grateful I was to find that I could still log in to my account and access my profile.

The Photoshop competitions were always my favourite and the contests were often presented with an accompanying image with rules that stated simply, to 'manipulate that image in any way you like'. The only other requirement for participation was to have fun and be creative!

These images show some of my favourite entries and I have included a link to the original competition page for anyone who might be interested.

More than anything, these pictures are a reminder of how much I enjoyed creating these entries and how much fun it was to be part of a community.
