In April I went back to DC for the open house of the DC temple.
As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, temples are very special and sacred places of instruction and worship. While living in DC I went to this temple many times and made a special trip to be there for the open house.
After construction or reconstruction (the DC Temple was built in 1974) the temple is opened to the public to tour and see both the inside and outside of the temple. The DC Temple open house as held from April 28 – June 11, 2022.
I went on the first day of the open house, April 28, 2022 with my very good friend Colin.
It was a gorgeous time to me in DC and on the temple grounds with the tulips, dogwood and red buds all blooming.

The temple is a very special place. After the open house it is then dedicated and those with special permission are then allowed to worship, learn, and make covenants with God and each other.
The DC temple was dedicated by President Russell M. Nelson last week (August 14, 2022) and this is part of the dedicatory prayer.
We pray that all who enter these sacred precincts may have a deep desire to worship here. Please bless them with the spirit of Elijah, that they may continue to turn their hearts to their ancestors, that essential ordinances may be performed for them. Bless them also with revelation, with guidance for their families and personal lives, with a sense of peace, and with ever-increasing faith.
Please thwart any unwelcome force that might harm this holy house. Please preserve it from any natural disaster or evil intent. Make it a refuge for all who enter its precincts. Please bless all who step onto these grounds, for whatever purpose, to feel Thy presence and to leave with a renewed sense of hope and an increased desire to draw close to Thee and Thy Son.
I love these words and the feeling I have when I visit a temple. It is a place of peace and comfort. A place of learning and connection with family and God.
If you are ever in the DC area and have a car this is a beautiful place to visit. It is in Kensington, Maryland. You can see the temple from the 495 beltway. Everyone is invited to walk around outside and go to the visitor center which has information about the temple and Jesus Christ.
