Lately I've been having trouble falling asleep, I go to bed early but then I wake up at 4 am or 5 and I can't sleep anymore, the point is that in one of those early mornings I thought it was a good idea to look for a title on Netflix, that's how I got this Brazilian movie that surprised me especially in the middle of a society ruled by the ultra-right-wing Jair Bolsonaro.
I love musicals but these types of movies are always very fanciful so when I started watching this production I was struck by how atypical it was in its genre for many reasons. I guess having the limitations that independent films have it must have been difficult for the director to take the film in the direction he was aiming for.
So I have returned to my favorite community with a film with many contrasts, whose flaws or successes we will discover through this review which I have enjoyed doing after some time without publishing.
𝕴𝖓𝖙𝖗𝖔𝖉𝖚𝖈𝖈𝖎ó𝖓
Últimamente he tenido problemas para conciliar el sueño, me acuesto temprano pero luego despierto a las 4 am o 5 y no puedo dormir más, el punto es que en una de esas madrugadas creí que era buena idea buscar un título en Netflix, fue así como conseguí esta película brasileña que me sorprendió sobre todo en medio de una sociedad gobernada por el ultraderechista Jair Bolsonaro.
Me encantan los musicales pero este tipo de películas siempre son muy fantasiosas por lo que cuando comencé a ver esta producción me impactó lo atípica que era en su género por muchas razones. Supongo que al tener las limitaciones que tiene el cine independiente debió haber sido difícil para el director llevar la película hacia la dirección que aspiraba.
Así que he vuelto a mi comunidad favorita con una película con muchos contrastes, cuyas fallas o aciertos descubriremos a través de esta reseña la cual he disfrutado hacer después de un tiempo sin publicar.

Paraíso Perdido is a film released in 2018 under the production of Case Filmes and Dueto Filmes with production and scripts written by Monique Gardenberg. The cinematography was in charge of Pedro Farkas.
The cast consisted of, among others, Lee Taylor, Jaloo, Erasmo Carlos, Júlio Andrade, Seu Jorge, Felipe Abib and Marjorie Estiano.

Paradise Lost is a nightclub where the sex of the customers does not matter and which is directed by José (Erasmo Carlos) the club is enlivened by the musical performances of his heirs and friends who have in their stories a number of complexities. Policeman Odair (Lee Taylor) approaches the family by chance after being invited in an alcabala by Teylor (Seu Jorge) one of the club's singers and ends up being hired to take care of the security of José's young grandson, named Ímã (Jaloo), a cisgender boy who shows up dressed as a woman and is the frequent target of homophobic attacks. Gradually the bond between the police officer and the clan of performers who show up every night becomes stronger and stronger, with surprising twists and turns.
But a dark secret envelops Odair in a series of events that have his mother Nádia (Malu Galli) and his lover Eva (Hermila Guedes) as the main protagonists of a gripping story. Countless family characters intermingle to create an atypical story told through the best musical acts.

Paraíso Perdido es un club nocturno en donde no importa el sexo de los clientes y el cual es dirigido por José (Erasmo Carlos) el club es amenizado por las actuaciones musicales de sus herederos y amigos que tienen en sus historias un sin número de complejidades. El policía Odair (Lee Taylor) se acerca a la familia por casualidad después de ser invitado en una alcabala por Teylor (Seu Jorge) uno de los cantantes del club y termina por ser contratado para encargarse de la seguridad del joven nieto de José, llamado Ímã (Jaloo), un chico cisgenero que se presenta vestido de mujer y es el objetivo frecuente de los ataques homófobos. Poco a poco el vínculo entre el agente policial y el clan de artistas que se presentan cada noche se vuelve cada vez más fuerte, con giros sorprendentes.
Pero un oscuro secreto envuelve a Odair en una serie de acontecimientos que tienen a su madre Nádia (Malu Galli) y a su amante Eva (Hermila Guedes) como las protagonistas principales de una apasionante historia. Un sin número de personajes de la familia se entremezclan para crear una historia atípica contada a través de los mejores actos musicales.
𝕸𝖞 𝕺𝖕𝖎𝖓𝖎𝖔𝖓
There are many positive aspects to this Brazilian independent film, first and foremost is undoubtedly the agility with which director Monique Gardenberg tells the stories she seems to know perfectly well. Without releasing a film for some time at that time her return was incredible with a work that I have managed to define as whimsical and that perfectly combines reflections on the past and present explored with the notorious talent of a cast specially chosen to perform musical interpretations.
The space that the director addresses called Paradise Lost does not seem to have similarities easy to find in real life, although the stories they tell are so endearing and at the same time so loose. But it is worth rescuing the fact that she has staged different generations of a sentimental clan, united against homophobia, domestic violence and racism. They are advocates of forgiveness, adept at dialogue and protagonists of daily shows that have as their repertoire unforgettable songs that are in tune with the story. Throughout the film I was distracted by the thought of how good a series of this story would have been, allowing it to address subplots that for my taste were left unfinished or not addressed in the gripping way I expect the stories I see on screen to be told.
Undoubtedly this is a great family, which the viewer approaches through an interesting plurality of evils common in the home or on the street but which the film fortunately manages to address without major hiccups. Unafraid to deal with themes, ranging from police violence to the creation of a trilogy, the director and her screenplay achieve their main goal which is to sustain the film until the end.
𝕸𝖎 𝕺𝖕𝖎𝖓𝖎ó𝖓
Hay muchos aspectos positivos en este filme brasileño de factura independiente, en primer lugar sin duda está la agilidad con la que la directora Monique Gardenberg cuenta las historias que parece conocer perfectamente. Sin estrenar una película desde hace tiempo en aquella época su regreso fue increíble con una obra que yo he logrado definir como caprichosa y que combina a la perfección las reflexiones sobre el pasado y el presente exploradas con el notorio talento de un elenco especialmente elegido para realizar interpretaciones musicales
El espacio que aborda la directora llamado Paraíso Perdido no parece tener similitudes fáciles de encontrar en la vida real, aunque las historias que cuentan sean tan entrañables y al mismo tiempo tan flojas. Pero es digno de rescatar el hecho de que haya puesto en escena a diferentes generaciones de un clan sentimental, unidas contra la homofobia, la violencia doméstica y el racismo. Son defensores del perdón, adeptos al diálogo y protagonistas de espectáculos diarios que tienen como repertorio canciones inolvidables que van al tono con la historia. Durante todo el filme me distraía pensando en lo buena que hubiera sido una serie de esta historia que le permitiera abordar sub tramas que para mi gusto quedaron inconclusas o no fueron abordadas de la manera apasionante que espero sean contadas las historias que veo en la pantalla.
Sin duda esta es una gran familia, a la que el espectador se acerca a través de una interesante pluralidad de males habituales en el hogar o en la calle pero que la película afortunadamente consigue abordar sin mayores contratiempos. Sin temer a tratar con temas, que van desde la violencia policial hasta la creación de una trilogía, la directora y su guion consiguen su objetivo principal que es sostener la película hasta el final.
The soundtrack signed by Zeca Baleiro, is wonderful and manages to accompany the most suitable and moving moments of the film, I must say that it was the musical acts that I enjoyed the most. Another highlight is the great cast, all were wonderful especially the male protagonists totally opposite, a beautiful heterosexual male specimen played by a sexy Lee Taylor and the other revelation was the interpretation that Jaloo gave to Ímã without giving the most beautiful character of the film.
Various types of language the body, music, are used in the expression of various forms of love but in the end I felt that the film has an almost novelistic tone that makes it forgettable. Despite its positive aspects it is not a film you would watch again, it is only for a night when nostalgia is with you.
The fantasy also detracts a lot from the story despite dealing with strong themes in a witty way the themes get lost among so much unreality, but it left me with a good taste in my mouth Brazil and its beautiful people. The Portuguese has an enriched sound with intonations that make the emotions more vividly expressed. So I enjoyed it and would recommend it of course I would because it is a story where everyone has a place and where above all labels have no place. I give it a 6/10 and accept Netflix recommendations for the next early morning.
La banda sonora firmada por Zeca Baleiro, es maravillosa y logran acompañar los momentos más idóneos y conmovedores de la película debo decir que fueron los actos musicales los que más disfrute. Otro punto destacable es el gran elenco, todos estuvieron maravillosos en especial los protagonistas masculinos totalmente opuestos, un hermoso ejemplar masculino heterosexual interpretado por un sexy Lee Taylor y la otra revelación fue la interpretación que Jaloo le dio a Ímã sin da el personaje más hermoso de la película.
Varios tipos de lenguaje el cuerpo, la música, se utilizan en la expresión de diversas formas de amor pero al final sentí que la película tiene un tono casi novelesco que la hace olvidable. A pesar de sus aspectos positivos no es una película que volverías a ver, es solo para una noche en la que la nostalgia te acompañe.
La fantasía también le resta mucho a la historia a pesar de tratar temas fuertes de una manera ingeniosa los temas se pierden entre tanta irrealidad, pero me ha dejado un buen sabor de boca Brasil y su gente hermosa. El portugués tiene un sonido enriquecido con entonaciones que hacen que las emociones se expresen más vívidamente. Entonces la disfrute y la recomendaría por supuesto que sí porque es una historia donde todos tienen cabida y donde sobre todo las etiquetas no tienen lugar. Le doy un 6/10 y acepto recomendaciones de Netflix para la próxima madrugada.
