You Don't Have To Be "Good" At It Before You Do It

I love to do this but I am really not good at it so I stay away from doing it". That's something you have probably heard someone say a few times (or maybe more than a few times). Sometimes, the need to be "good" at something before practising really does keep us trapped and hold us back from really living and experiencing happiness with our own selves.

When we focus on being good before practising what we really love, we get stuck in a maze, trying to move somewhere, without making any real progress. Because we are simply not practising that which we love.

People who love what they do, give it this special touch, you feel the passion and the drive, even when they are not good at it. And not only that, there is a sense of happiness and satisfaction you feel once you let yourself free to do what you love.

There are people with passion but no (or little) skill, people with skills but no passion and then people with both. Lucky those with both, yeah?

You too probably have a skill which you are not really passionate about and it is just there- A skill! Skill without passion is lifeless, we need love/passion to bring that skill to life, so just do what you love.

My Mum loves to sing but her voice almost always betrays her whenever she tries to sing, that has not stopped her from singing because even with her "not-so-good" voice, she knows how great she feels after singing.

If she had wanted to make music a career, I am sure she would have gone for music classes by now and will train her voice but it doesn't have too be a career before you love it and that still has not stopped her from singing (she actually has plans of joining a music class). Because the voice really doesn't count when it comes to what she gets from singing when she sings, there is so much joy and happiness plastered on her face, you see a fulfilled and satisfied woman.

You really don't have to be good at what you love before you do it, you just have to be real and authentic. It is actually by doing it that you become better at it, how much you love that thing is what matters.

Break free from that trap and let yourself live. It doesn't matter if you dance steps are weird, dance away. It doesn't matter if your voice is all cracked, sing with joy. It doesn't matter if you paint terribly, paint away. It doesn't matter if your writing is crappy, write anyways.

You will always be satisfied and happy doing these things you love but are not good at, so free yourself and do them. And besides, there would always be someone willing to see that weird dance steps, crack voice, crappy writing or that painting. Because they are unique!

Plus, if you don't practice, you may never get good at it. So, instead of stressing about being good, free yourself, be authentic, practice and learn! That is how you become "good" at it

Truth is, most times what we mean by good is actually somewhat close to "perfect", we give it a really high standard which sadly keeps us trapped.

So, here is me telling you to free yourself and do all of those things that you so much love, without being good at it, don't deprive yourself of that much happiness, joy, fulfilment and life.

.

Much Love, Audrey
