'Set In Motion' (Alt Title: This Is Not A Love Song - In The Key of Motion)

This is NOT an entry for the #imageskills challenge organised by @bluefinstudios however if you are interested in participating in photography challenges, I suggest you check out those two links for more info.

The first time I read about this challenge was via a post promoted on the Steem Artists discord channel last Sunday and even though I didn't think I had time to enter the contest, the theme word stuck in my head for days.

Instead of just wondering whether I could capture that idea in a still, I decided to 'borrow' the theme for my own self-challenge, using it for an exercise that would push me out of my comfort zone.

One of the most beautiful qualities that I enjoy about photography is how it changes my view of the world around me - I see everything in a different light. I've started to notice patterns everywhere and I'm beginning to see (so many) details in everything. Most of all, I love how it encourages me to see beauty contained in the every-day.

Sometimes we all need a little reminder, one that tells us to slow down, one that says 'take your time' and 'PLEASE stop to smell the roses'. Sometimes we need to remind ourselves that LIFE is the journey and so rushing through it doesn't make any sense.

Personally, I don't want to sleep until we get there and photography is my way of enjoying the scenery while I'm travelling because my guess is, that's the reason WHY I'm travelling in the first place.

Anyhoo, with the theme word (MOTION) rolling around my mind, a simple walk to the local shops quickly turned into a photo opportunity. When I take the short-cut, I have to cross over a stormwater drain which is usually only a thin trickle of water and usually quite safe to cross unless it's raining.

As I crossed the water that day, the sun glinting on the surface caught my eye and I noticed the patterns being created by the motion of the water.

I'm quite happy with the resulting photo's although I feel that something is lacking from the composition. Perhaps a solitary leaf floating on the surface would make a nice contrasting break in the pattern.

And on that note, I do hope that you are also able to create a nice contrasting break within this busy-ness called life.

Thanks for stopping by and reading my post.

And thanks again to @bluefinstudios for providing the inspiration for these photos.

Kindest Regards
