Hello everyone! Zak Ludick here from Cape Town, South Africa and this is a Warhammer 40k - The Great Unit Review Wheel! post!
Now known as the Unit Review Library!
What is it all about? It is not there to just give a stat. It is there to give MY review of the unit!
In this series, I will review one unit at a time, picking them randomly.
So let me spin the wheel again and see what I get:
Deathwatch, Proteus Killteam
10th Edition Index
Right, the first Deathwatch unit on the Review Library and it is starting us off with a Bang!
Who are the Deathwatch? They are a special task force that hunts for Xenos(aliens) that is made up of many different chapters of Space Marines.
The Proteus Kill team is... strange... You'll see.
A unit of 5 Veteran Space Marines costs you 180pts.
OR
360pts for: 10 Veterans, + 4 Marines with jump packs, + 4 Kill Team Terminators and + 2 Space Marines on Bikes! Amazing!A team of 20!
Let's check those stats!
Stats
Each kind of Marine has its own stats... let's group them together if needed.
For Veterans and Space Marines with Jump Packs:
Movement 6"
Toughness 4
Save 4+(armor/invul/Feel No Pain)
Wounds 2
Ld 7+
OC 1
For Space marines with Bikes:
Movement 12"
Toughness 5
Save 3+(armor/invul/Feel No Pain)
Wounds 2
Ld 7+
OC 2
And Terminators:
Movement 5"
Toughness 5
Save 2+/4++(armor/invul/Feel No Pain)
Wounds 3
Ld 7+
OC 1
Weapons
Way too many options to count and list.
For Wargear options, in a full capacity squad can take the following:
3x Terminators can have Terminnor Heavy Weapons to site.
4x Death Watch Space Marine Heavy Weapons.
4x Thunder Hammer.
But they have many other smaller weapons options and you are allowed to mix and match unit you have the utility out of the unit that you wish.
Instead of reviewing each and every weapon, let's focus on some of the specific weapons this squad can use, like the Infernus heavy bolter. This weapon has two shooting profiles. One is a Heavy Bolter and the other one is a Heavy Flamer.
Ranged:
Infernus heavy bolter (heavy flamer) - A 12" Range, D6 Shots, Torrent, S5 AP-1 D1 - With Ignores Cover
Infernus heavy bolter (heavy bolter) - A 36" Range, Hits on a 3+, S5 AP-2 D2 - Sustained Hits 1.
Melee:
Deathwatch thunder hammer
3 Attacks, Hitting on 4+, S10, AP-2 and 3 Damage.
Devastating Wounds.
Abilities
Proteus Doctrines
If this unit attacks an enemy unit that is less than starting strength, then add +1 to the To Wound roll! This is directly a lot of additional damage.
Thoughts
This is a pricey unit with a lot of models and a variety of weapons.
If they are fielded with all the heavy weapon options you can possibly dream of, you could still include enough melee to scare off most of would-be attackers except for some of the most specialized melee units in the game.
Before you get there, should the unit be built right, you will get shot by a massive amount of weapons!
It would be interesting to see what sort of combination people come up with!
Thank you for reading!
