Snowflakes Are Useful Idiots: Recommended Reading List #9

We won two since my last report, as the University of Arizona backed down from its plan to hire students to act as Thought Police on campus, and Oklahoma Wesleyan Prez Everett Piper tells his snowflakes where to shove it, but the jackass running Northwestern more than made up for it by saying that “safe spaces” are useful and should be protected by his administration. He also explained that he wanted "to protect the First Amendment, obviously, but it isn’t absolute. People reduce it to slogans or free speech at all costs”, which apparently means he doesn't support the First Amendment...or something (Hat Tip, Daily Wire).

Ian Cheong reports that UCLA, not to be outdone in the Bigotry Parade by Arizona, announced plans to pay 8 to 10 student snitches (with taxpayer dollars); unlike the University of Arizona, which dropped the idea like a hot rock after word got out, UCLA will forge ahead. After all, this is LaLaLand we're talking about.

  • Airaksinen,Toni: Teachers learn to use math as Trojan horse for social justice
  • Teach for America and EdX are partnering to provide a training course for middle-school math teachers on how to incorporate social justice into their curricula.
According to the course developers, regular math is "too abstract" for many students, and incorporating social justice can help them better understand "the power and meaning" of math.
  • Airaksinen,Toni: Recordings show TAMU prof endorsing anti-white violence in class
  • Even as “concerned students” rally to his defense, former students are revealing even more recordings of a Texas A&M professor advocating violence against white people.
Dr. Tommy Curry became a focus of controversy last week when recordings surfaced of a 2012 podcast interview in which he discussed “killing white people in context” and asserted that, “In order to be equal, in order to be liberated, some white people may have to die.”
  • Bresciani, Michael: Can America Endure its Snowflakes, Demons and Democrats?
  • Not only was conservative speaker Ann Coulter forced out of her speaking engagement at University of California-Berkeley, but following the riots there, a student senator told the school paper that the continued presence of the police on campus was “re-traumatizing” students on campus.
To think of it! These brave hearts, whose mothers managed to pass by the abortion mills without responding to the Sanger-ian call to abort, and then clumsily diddling through high school, now are offended with cops on campus. The sheer horror of peace officers in the midst!
  • Cheong, Ian Miles: UCLA Hiring Student ‘Social Justice Advocates’ to Fight Against ‘Whiteness’ and ‘Patriarchy’
  • The University of Arizona isn’t the only institution to hop aboard the social justice bandwagon with official positions for social justice warriors. The prestigious University of California-Los Angeles, is joining the ranks, announcing plans to hire students to function as “Social Justice Advocates” to combat “whiteness,” “heteronormativity” and “the patriarchy.”
  • College Fix: Public university yanks ‘Social Justice Advocates’ job listing that includes bias snitching
  • ‘We never asked students to inform or spy on each other’
The University of Arizona was offering $10 an hour to students who promote social justice in campus housing and report bias incidents to Residence Life staff.
Following a report by Campus Reform calling attention to the “Social Justice Advocates” position, the listing was removed.
  • Daily Wire: Northwestern University Closes Shapiro Event To General Public, Citing "Safety Concerns"
  • On Thursday, Northwestern University notified Young America’s Foundation that a previously-scheduled event on May 24 with Daily Wire editor-in-chief Ben Shapiro, which was set to be open to the public, had now been closed to the public due to “safety concerns.” Instead, the event will only be open to students. According to one of the organizing students, security officials at the school were concerned that outsiders would disrupt the event. The College Republicans agreed to the administration’s stipulations in the interest of moving ahead with the event.
This announcement comes on the heels of Northwestern University students disrupting a sociology class because a public relations officer from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) was visiting. (See Elliot Hamilton's report, below.)
  • Hamilton, Elliot: Citing "Hurt Feelings", Northwestern University Students Disrupt Class That Invited ICE Officer To Speak
  • MAY 16: According to The Daily Northwestern, protesters yelled "f**k ICE" and demanded answers as to why Prof. Redbird invited the ICE officer to campus. The unnamed officer left the classroom after the disruption began and Redbird answered a series of the protesters' questions. She said that she invited the officer to speak to explain to her class how the agency works and that she planned to invite an illegal immigrant to her Thursday class to balance out the conversation. Some of the students openly expressed dismay that Prof. Redbird and the students allowed the ICE officer to campus, citing that it would be "be hurtful to some" of the students on campus.
  • Haverluck,Michael F: Univ. president putting heat on offended 'snowflakes'
  • Oklahoma Wesleyan University (OKWU) President Everett Piper has had enough with the “snowflake rebellion,” and declared again that he will not cave in to the demands of easily offended students who are often seen violently protesting perceived slights with regards to LGBT issues, pro-life arguments, immigration, race, Islam, “climate change,” and other hot-button topics.
He is fed up with overly sensitive students at OKWU and elsewhere dictating to school administrators what students and instructors should be allowed to say on campus and what should be censored – such as the free speech of Christian students who share a biblical worldview.
  • Knighton, Tom: Professor Blocks College Republicans From Campus Event
  • A gender studies professor at Orange Coast College took it upon herself to block two members of the school's College Republicans group from attending a campus event for black women, claiming that their presence there would negate the "safe space" allegedly being created. In an email, the professor, Jessica Alabi, styled herself a vigilante.
