Steemit Clone Wars
Ever since steem blockchain, a system based on blogging, was released there was a possibility of copying it. The initial idea is good, people can earn by writing. Later on, it proved to be solid ground for developing various apps. People saw the potential and went for it.
Since the code is public it is not difficult to copy it. An avid developer or two are enough to create entirely self-sufficient clone blockchains and it is already happening. Clones are growing like mushrooms after the rain. What was Steem exclusive now became Weku, Scorum and Whaleshares. The ones that come to mind first.
However, let's not forget that the Steem was the first and has an enormous membership. This will be hard to tackle by any of the newly formed clones and semi-clones. Especially if, due to the growing competition, Steem inc. starts doing proper hardforks that happen without rendering the entire blockchain inoperable for a week. :D

Steem also needs a serious marketing division. It was easy to bring people on in times of monopoly and the steem price high. Now, with the new playground, free for all, it will be an entirely different ball game in need of a far superior approach. So, guys, developing aside and start hiring marketing people who will keep the business afloat and constantly keep steem one step ahead of others.
It is not only developing that counts, but this project is also about people and their thoughts processes, not so much about lining the code anymore. If it ever was...
Therefore, we believe that the rise of clones might be beneficial for Steem if the situation is approached from the correct angle and we are eagerly awaiting future developments.
