MM Photography Series: "Moment"

Imagination can sometimes take us so far that we get stuck in some kind of vicious circle always thinking of things that we will never have, that we could have, that we should have. It´s always that small glimpse of hope for something better; either searching, exploring, learning, asking for more; and that quest always brings us to state of apathy. We tend to think about things that could/would/should be. Things that are in the future. We fantasize how it was and how it could be different. But it´s all in the past! We need to “live” now, in present; focus all thoughts and energy into it and realise that when you get to know something you want to go step farther and bring it to the next level. You keep going, wanting to get that initial high, thinking it could be different, this time it could be something else, but it is not and it won´t be. It was all here the entire time.

Similar thing happened with this picture. While I was at local botanic garden enjoying the day this little fella came and I immediately wanted to take his picture. I was waiting and waiting for the squirrel to come to me, anticipated the right moment. After all it was taken with smartphone so there is no way I was going to zoom and loose quality. Waiting for it to come closer and closer I was dreaming of having the perfect shot and then, bam; got this picture. When I watched it I thought I could do better but the squirrel moved, so I waited more. Thinking of getting a better picture, how it could turn out if I moved to a different angle…, but guess what. I never did. It immediately made me unhappy and sad; but the crucial part is that this is sort of an average picture, nothing special; and yet it perfectly describes itself in the moment.
