Chapter XV Opal
Designer drugs
Thomas's belongings continued just as Mindy and Angeline had left them the first day they began to search their father's belongings, one of the places they had not yet searched was in the cupboard in the room in which Thomas kept objects of varied ceramics and some medals of the time when he was sailing. Andrew's attention was drawn to the cabinet, so he opened one of his drawers, there carefully arranged he took out a prescription and a bottle of designer drug pills, when uncovered emitted a strong rancid aroma. Mindy was a little compromised since she had no idea that her father had used them.
(end 5 minutes)
Angeline, however, said to them:
"We should give him a benefit of the doubt, maybe these were prescribed by a doctor"
Andrew, taking Angeline's comment in the air, took the recipe that was there and when reading it, that's what he said, there it was expressed the type of medicine it was, its composition and the use that Thomas must give it. Once the doubt was solved they finished checking the other objects in the cupboard and now attention turned to the objects that rested on the table.
Caribbean music
Meanwhile, the kitchen radio was now broadcasting Caribbean music, with a touch to Jamaica, leading Angeline to remember the times when her father lived with her on the island, Mindy, surprised by the moment, involuntarily began to hum the songs. song notes so Andrew laughing said to them:
"Certainly, Thomas is playing us, it would seem that he is here about to enter the room, even I remembered now when in our meetings in the park he spoke to me about his weakness for Caribbean music and his women"
To which Angeline and Mindy felt as if their father was hugging them right now.
Andrew then took in his hands the box that kept the old coins and banknotes. His face lit up since he had not seen such a precious treasure for a long time, so he commented:
"Friends, here certainly this part of the treasure, to this I calculate at least more than one hundred thousand dollars in value, this before starting to auction them"
They inadvertently emitted a loud sigh simultaneously. Thomas said to them:
"I think their lives will soon take an unexpected turn."
Complicated jargon
Andrew after this comment, he took Thomas's personal diary in his hands beginning to read it. On the first page, the dedication to each of his daughters and the women in his life confirmed his memory of how loving he had been.
As he turned to the next pages, he began to worry about what he had written there in complicated jargon and that due to its spelling and syntax it was not being so easy to decipher it.
Mindy, realizing her change in aptitude, remained silent beside him. Angeline, without even realizing it, began to check her father's briefcase. Inside he extracted one of the letters that she had sent him from the island to the address of a post box. In the letter she was pleased to see that her father had highlighted some paragraphs of his letter, in which he had placed a side note with a loving comment to her, when she saw this with her eyes full of tears on her face they made Andrew lost concentration on what he was doing and said to them:
"I did not think that this was going to be so difficult for me, really, it is that Thomas was trying to take many secrets to his grave, I have to take photos of the pages of your father's personal diary, to study it calmly in my office, then in a few days we can meet again to give you my report "
Convinced that he was going to help them, they agreed to give him permission to take photos of the pages. Once he finished photographing them, they left everything as it was, they went down to the kitchen since Mindy would now prepare a coffee before they returned to their residences.
Jewel
Mindy from the cupboard in her kitchen extracted an Italian espresso machine, there in a pot she had a container with special Colombian coffee, placing water on it and placing it on the fire. After five minutes the room acquired an attractive smell in which Angeline and Andrew were trapped. Serving it in three imported Chinese porcelain cups she felt that they deserved everything for which speaking out loud she said:
"I feel very good with your company, this time since my father passed away I had been very alone"
Angeline, now understood that her sister really valued what she was saying, her gaze now resting on her neck, so now she realized that she was wearing an opal necklace, which gave her a more feminine touch. With natural curiosity she asked Mindy:
"Sister, who gave you that jewel on your neck?"
She replied:
"This is a memory of our father, since he had given it to my mother when they were married"
They smiled and fell silent upon hearing those words.
