Hello everyone! Zak Ludick here from Cape Town, South Africa and this is a Warhammer 40k - The Great Unit Review Wheel! post!
Now known as the Unit Review Library!
What is it all about? It is not there to just give a stat. It is there to give MY review of the unit!
In this series, I will review one unit at a time, picking them randomly.
So let me spin the wheel again and see what I get:
Astra Militarum, Kasrkin
10th Edition Index
This is an exceedingly clever and cool box for GW to have developed. This box allows you to play the squad-combat focussed game Killteam, while, the datasheet for 40k uses the Kill Team exactly as they are!
Kasrkin are 120pts for a squad of 10 specialist Guard Infantry.
The box above costs £37.50 for the box of 10 models.
This box would cost 150.09 HIVE at current prices.
Let's check those stats!
Stats
Movement 6"
Toughness 3
Save 4+(armor/invul/Feel No Pain)
Wounds 1
Ld 7+
OC 1
Weapons
This Squad has a massive amount of options.
1 Sergeant wields a chain sword or power weapon, and a hot-shot laspistol or bolt pistol or plasma pistol.
To be honest, there is no real advantage of not running the plasma pistol. You do not have to fire it in overcharged mode.
The Power Weapon is one less attack but far more effective.
The rest of the squad come standard with hot-shot lasguns. Except for the specialists:
- 1 vox-caster
- 4 Kasrkin Troopers with special weapons (flamer, grenade launcher, hot-shot volley gun, meltagun, plasma gun) - no more than 2 of any gun!
- 1 Kasrkin Trooper with melta mine.
- 1 1 Kasrkin Trooper with hot-shot marksman rifle
Ranged:
Hot shot Lasgun - 24" Range, 1 Shot, Hitting on 3+, S3 AP-1 Damage 1. Rapid Fire 1 so double the shots at 12"
Hot-shot marksman rifle - 36" Range, 1 Shot, Hitting on 3+, S4 AP-2 Damage 3. Precision and Heavy. So standing still, hit on 2+ and can target a character in a unit!
Special weapon options:
Flamer (Standard Militarum version)
Meltagun (Standard Militarum version but hit on 3+)
Plasmagun (Standard Militarum version but hit on 3+)
Grenade Launcher (Standard Militarum version but hit on 3+)
Hot-shot volley gun - 30" Range, 2 Shots, Hitting on 3+, S4 AP-1 Damage 1. Rapid Fire 2 so double the shots (4 shots) at 15"
If it were me, I would run 2x Grenade Launchers and 2x Plasmaguns.
Melee:
The squad just have basic Close Combat Weapons:
2 Attacks, Hitting on 4+, S3, AP0 and 1 Damage.
Sergeant Weapon Options:
Chain Sword
4 Attacks, Hitting on 4+, S3, AP0 and 1 Damage.
Power Weapon
3 Attacks, Hitting on 4+, S4, AP-1 and 1 Damage.
Wargear Abilities
Vox-caster
When you use a Stratagem on this unit, roll a 5+ and get 1 CP back, get +1 when this unit is within 6" of an Officer.Melta Mine
Once per game, roll a 2+, the target takes D3 damage. If the target is a vehicle , then it takes 2D6 damage.
Abilities
Scouts 6"
Warrior Elite
In the Command Phase the Kasrkin can Select an Order to be active on themselves.
Thoughts
They look great and at 120pts for 10 men they are really useful! I would love yo have a box of them for my Imperial army!
They have a sniper, the ability to deal mortal wounds to targets, and of course, my suggested Anti-infantry, Anti-light tanks and anti-light infantry.
The shooting put out by the right special weapons would hurt alot.
Thank you for reading!
