Josette, and Miles Steem are my Sim Girl legacy challenge Sims. If you are not familiar with the challenge you can find it at Sims Legacy Challenge. This challenge is to basically, start your Sim out on a huge lot; with little to no money, and then play the household for 10 generations on this land. There are many stipulations, and rules for the challenge. You can find these rules by following the link.
Today I will be writing about how to build a diner. The Dine Out game pack of the Sims 4, allows you to build, design, decorate, and run a restaurant with yours Sims.
If your Sims have money, they can use their cell phone, and purchase a pre-made restaurant. They can then travel to the restaurant and begin running the business.
Once in the restaurant, you can then assign the menu, assign the uniforms for the employees, and assign duties.
If you are building the building from scratch, you will need to open the lot information to assign the building to be a restaurant.
Once the building is assigned, you can open the requirements menu for opening a restaurant. Before the game will allow you to open the restaurant, you will need to add one sink, one toilet, one chef station, one waiter station, one host station, and four dining spots.
By selecting the filter when building, you can find the latest additions to your Sims 4 game, that includes the Dine Out game pack building materials.
From there you can choose to decorate the restaurant any way you’d like. Once you place the rest of the furniture, you can then decide if the space is too big, or too small.
The first restaurant I built when I got the Dine Out pack was beautiful, and had lots of room, but the extra space was not needed. I have found it is better to start with the essentials, and then add-on as required.
Once you are in the decorating menu, you can then pick from the Dine Out game pack menu to choose your restaurant’s theme, and floor design.
You will find many of the items needed for the requirements list in the restaurant items category, such as the chief station.
Once you have designed, and decorated your restaurant, you can check the requirement list, to be sure you have added everything needed to open your restaurant.
You will see the lot value here as well. If you would like to add traits to your lot, you can do it before you leave the build mode. You can also name your new restaurant.
Don’t forget to save the lot, and share it to the community gallery if you’d like to share it with other Sims 4 players.
When I returned to the Steem household, I could select Miles, and have him buy the restaurant on his phone.
Once you select buy restaurant on the phone, the household will be taken to the world map, where you can choose the location of the business.
Since I build the Miles Diner in the same town as the Steem family, I went back to that map, and selected the restaurant that I previously built in build mode.
The purchase price of the diner will be $8,005. The price of the purchase will be taken directly out of the Steem household funds, and any member of the family can go to there, open, and run the restaurant as owners.
Every member in the Steem family can also hire, fire, or manage any of the employees, greet customers, and give out complimentary meals.
Once you have purchased your Sim’s restaurant, you will then be given the option to transfer funds from the household fund, to the business.
These funds will be needed to hire employees, and train the employees. You will also need funds to purchase inventory, and cover any costs for running the business.
On the far bottom-right hand of the screen, you will find a cash register icon. This menu will show all the owned businesses that your Sim owns.
From this menu, you can see if the restaurant is open or closed, the last shift finances, the meal profits, the business funds, and your restaurant’s reputation in stars.
You can also find the manage employees’ icon. This is where you will hire, fire, and manage the employees of the restaurant.
The manage employee menu, will allow you to select between employees with the tabs up top. You can select chef, server, and host.
In each menu you will be given a list of available employees, and their skills. You see which skill they have, and how it pertains to the job. The chefs will make the drinks on the menu as well.
You must hire one chef, one server, and one host, to open the restaurant.
You can select the employee with the skills you desire, and then add them to the labor pool. They will arrive shortly after you open to start their shift.
Look who applied for a waitress position. I think I will give her a job, since I did kick her out of the house and all…
Before you can officially open your restaurant, you will need to go back to your chef, and see what their skills are at before deciding on a menu. If you place foods, and drinks on your menu that are higher than your chef’s skill level, the customers will be disappointed, and your chef will not be able to keep up with the demand.
This chef will be able to make drinks up to level 3, and food up to level 1.
Going back to the menu where you managed the employees, you will find another menu for the restaurant settings. In the settings, you can select the uniforms for the employees, and select the menu items.
You will need to add all the available items that your chef can cook. Since Miles will be opening a dinner, he will be serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner items found in a regular diner.
You can if you want, pick a preselected menu with a particular menu cuisine, such as Italian. If you do decide to pick a pre-selected menu, you may have to go back and take off the items, your chef cannot cook yet.
Once you open your restaurant, you will be able to keep track of your earnings by opening the shift summary. This will show you the sales, cost of ingredients, meal profits, wages owed, advertising costs, and net profit.
As your business grows, you will be able to train your employees, greet the customers, and add items to the menu to earn more profit. You can also earn points to spend on rewards, such as food discounts with vendors.
If you show up to run your restaurant, your employees will be there to work. You can work them for eight hours before they start to complain. If you don’t show up, the employees will find other jobs, and you will have to re-train new employees.
Once the customers arrive, they will have stars above their heads. If you interact with the customers, and the service is good, the stars will turn green, and they will give your restaurant a good review.
If the service is bad, they will have a red star above their heads, and they will give you a negative review.
I hope you have learned a little more about how to play the Sims 4, and how to open a restaurant using the Dine Out game pack. Like every other aspect of the Sims 4 game, there are many challenges to running a new business, but by starting off small, Miles is off to a good start.
Until next time,
Happy Gaming- Sim Girl
