The infected breast milk is what caused the baby's illness thought the worried nurse. Her stress levels had reached its max thirty-six hours ago. Her nail-biting led to five fingernails dripping blood.
"Nurse Ratchet."
Lethargically, she turned.
"It's not your fault so stop biting." Rose gently pulled on Ratchet's hand. "You can go home."
"I see the baby crawling, wailing, reaching toward me." Ratchet took her hand back, covering them with her gown that had dried puke stains on it.
"Stop that biting now," Rose said, "because it will get infected overnight." Rose grabbed a bottle of disinfectant from the cabinet and a rag from off the bed. "Honey, this is the normal way of life around this hospital, and you will get used to it."
"Accepting?"
"All babies get sick and puke around here like Santa Claus dropping farts."
"The breast milk is infected."
Rose snorted and said, "That is a rumor started by Jen."
Ratchet, twisting her gown, watched as some of the dried puke cracked and crumbled to the cold, white floor.
"I told you to stop fidgeting with your hand so that it won't get infected."
"Jen is not crazy nor a lier," said Ratchet standing up, "and I will be the whistleblower to go public."
*This wasn't a real freewrite, they usually aren't anymore. Today I just used the prompt while I had one guiding factor. If you take note, you will see that all sentences correlate with the numbers 1 through 20 in a randomized order. Meaning, there is one sentence with one word, one sentence with eighteen words, another with seven words. I did this until I ran out of numbers.
You might like to give this exercise a go if all your sentences tend to be the same length, this may bore the reader. Using this model is a way to jazz up your writing. I learned this from John Taylor Gatto from an interview called, "The Ultimate History lesson." What do think about this exercise? Let me know if you try it.
