Value Plan Spotlight: Street Workout Community (SWC) 2022 Review

Value Plan Spotlight: Street Workout Community (SWC) 2022 Review

SWC

Organized by @manuelramos with the help of @marlenyaragua.

01. Overview

The SWC is a Hive promotional project that became a community after an unprecedented launch. It is the only one of its kind in the entire cryptosphere and can be described as the only national-level sporting team and competition series in the world to organically emerge out of a blockchain-based ecosystem.

Almost all of the events are held in upscale venues and garner a crowd of invited local notable personalities, dignitaries and patrons. The events are meant to show the impact of Hive and provide a draw that targets the younger generation. The events are all highly professional, crisp and showcase Hive in a positive light as a blockchain that empowers youth. It is a stark contrast to how blockchain technology is typically portrayed and for this reason the events have been popular with professional sporting authorities and community leaders. Venues and businesses have co-sponsored the events where possible and have provided both space and resources. All events are held at the professional level and require formal approval of respective ministries, police and fire departments.

A total of 9 competitive events were scheduled and held in 2022 (with the final being the Hive Cup finale, approaching next week).
Street Workout Duals Battles (SWDB) on May 7
Street Workout Exhibition Aragüeño Youth Institute (INSAJUV) on May 27
Street Workout Exhibition at UEP Jacob Pérez Carballo - Fe y Alegría on June 20
Street Workout Exhibition at the Parque Recreativo y Deportivo “El Samán” on June 25
Street Workout Exhibition at the Kiki Beach Club on July 22
Street Workout Exhibition at the Sambil Barquisimeto Mall on September 11
Street Workout Exhibition at the Sambil Valencia Mall on October 8
Street Workout Exhibition at the Gimnasio Cubierto "12 de Febrero" on November 26
Hive Cup at the Sambil Barquisimeto Mall on December 20

They were further supported by a ‘Let’s Talk About Hive’ on August 25.

04. Activity Review

SWC events had a viewership of approximately 6750 direct spectators in addition to social media exposure, television viewers and radio listeners. The reach is exponentially higher than known numbers and has garnered the attention of notable government leaders and international athletic representatives. All competitors are Hive community members, having joined Hive to share their journeys with the ecosystem.

Street Workout Duals Battles (SWDB)

May 7, Los Aviadores Mall, Palo Negro
Participants: 78 | Crowd size: 1000

The first SWC event and the start of the season was the National Open Competition where athletes competed in pairs. It was the first event planned by the SWC and acted as a ‘trial run’. Athletes from Apure, Aragua, Carabobo and Lara states participated. It had quite the impact in social networks and digital press due to its excellent organization and staging. The event exceeded all expectations and gained the attention of official sporting institutions which provided excellent comments regarding its organization. It also attracted many athletes who immediately contacted the Organizing Team with their intent to join the competition and Hive.

Street Workout Exhibition Aragüeño Youth Institute (INSAJUV)

May 27, INSAJUV, Maracay
Participants: 30 | Crowd size: 100

Exhibition held at the request of INSAJUV, taking into account that this institution was able to visualize through the regional press what young people from the state of Aragua were carrying out, along with other young people nationwide. Aside from having demonstrated what young people from Aragua state are capable of, the event granted Hive the opportunity to use INSAJUV spaces for meetings and discussions in the future. It also caught the attention of several athletes who were onboarded and are currently active in the SWC. It was supported by social media activity.

Street Workout Exhibition at UEP Jacob Pérez Carballo - Fe y Alegría

June 20, Unidad Educativa Privada Jacob Pérez Carballo - Fe y Alegría, Maracay
Participants: 32 | Crowd size: 250

Second exhibition in the state of Aragua. It was held in an educational institution. The exhibition was attended by teachers, management staff and 10 sections of 25 students each. Excellent comments from the management team and teachers of the institution. The event had much acclaim on social media as a result and captured the attention of athletes who were onboarded to SWC and Hive.

Street Workout Exhibition at the Parque Recreativo y Deportivo “El Samán”

June 25, Parque Recreativo y Deportivo “El Samán" - Turmero, municipio Mariño, Aragua
Participants: 45 | Crowd size: 500

This exhibition was held in a bio-health park with excellent sports facilities. This is an outdoor exhibition. The selected space had a lot of visibility, even from the main road. It is a park that is located in a very busy area where many people go. That day we had the presence of the Director of Sports of Mariño municipality and the management team of the Mayor's Office of Mariño. The event was well-attended. Children, adolescents, teenagers, young people and adults were part of this staging.

Street Workout Exhibition at the Kiki Beach Club

*July 22, Kiki Beach Club, Waikiki Beach, municipio Puerto Cabello, Carabobo
Participants: 30 | Crowd size: 500

This is the first and so far only beach event in which a ‘Versus’ was held between SWC athletes. The owner of the private club Kiki Beach said that the event had excellent planning and the participation of the athletes, both in the organization and in their performance on the bars, was impeccable. This event had an extraordinary coverage in social networks, both from SWC's social networks and the club owner's networks. The Kiki Beach Club and Waikiki Beach are a renowned tourist attraction that has rapidly risen to fame in recent years.

‘Let’s Talk About Hive’

August 25, Aragüeño Youth Institute (INSAJUV), Maracay
Participants: 30 | Crowd size: 100

SWC athletes and Hive community members participated in this activity. The athletes shared their experiences in the SWC and what the Hive blockchain means and the various opportunities it provides. Senior athletes who act as part of the ‘moderation team’ shared their insights. Other athletes talked about the transformations that the SWC has brought about in their lives as athletes and as social beings who interact in the SWC community, both digitally and in person. Those who were unable to attend in person spoke via video. @Enrique89 spoke about Web3, emphasizing the evolution of Web1, Web2 to Web3. Natalia Loreto (@soyloreto) in her video presentation outlined content creation and communities on Hive.

Street Workout Exhibition at the Sambil Barquisimeto Mall

September 11, Sambil Barquisimeto, Barquisimeto
Participants: 30 | Crowd size: 1500

This event was planned by the SWC and organized jointly with Barquisimeto Hivers. Several Hive speakers participated to talk about Web3, Hive blockchain and Hive Communities. The administration of the shopping center requested compliance with a number of requirements. In total, 16 requirements, related to the number of events held in the private sector, track record of events in malls and coverage on Instagram of each of the events held. All specifications were met and authority granted. The Marketing Management team of the mall was fascinated by the organization and professionalism of the event. Social media coverage of the SWC and the mall took place. Processing of permits before the Mayor's Office of Iribarren municipality and the Superintendence of the Autonomous Tax Service of the municipality of Iribarren (payment of fees and taxes).

Street Workout Exhibition at the Sambil Valencia Mall

October 8, Sambil Valencia, Urbanización Parques de Mañongo, municipio Naguanagua, Carabobo
Participants: 30 | Crowd size: 800

Several Hive speakers participated to talk about Web3, Hive blockchain and Splinterlands as one of the featured Hive blockchain games. Several safety and procedural requirements had to be met in the mall, which were readily complied with. Excellent organization and professionalism in the development of the event. There was social media coverage of the SWC and the mall. Processing of permits before the Mayor's Office of the Municipality of Naguanagua and the Superintendence of the Autonomous Tax Service of the Municipality of Naguanagua (payment of fees and taxes). Notifications were made to Fundanagua and to the Directorate of Public Safety and Municipal Police as is required.

Street Workout Exhibition at the Gimnasio Cubierto "12 de Febrero"

November 26, San Fernando de Apure, Apure
Participants: 32 | Crowd size: 500

National Exhibitions Cycle closing event and final exhibition. It was held in a public institution, the "12 de Febrero" Covered Gymnasium, attached to FundeApure. The event was met with great receptivity in the media. It led to interviews with four radio stations and a video interview in the regional television station.

Hive Cup

December 20, Sambil Barquisimeto, Barquisimeto
Participants: 35 | Crowd size: 1500

The final competition for all the participating SWC athletes to complete a year of tournaments. This event was negatively affected by weather-related issues early on and had to be moved from Maracay where it was originally to take place. Sambil Mall in Barquisimeto was selected due to the excellent partnership the mall organizers have offered Hive. They presented an amazing space during a busy holiday shopping season for the competition.

05. Finances

Event Costs

The cost of each event is in the $5,000 to $10,000 range, much of which goes into logistics and site requirements. Different locations have different mandates that must be met for safety and to satisfy regulations. The cost also depends on transportation and the distance that the equipment and participating athletes must travel. Athletes travel by bus as a group and equipment, which consists of heavy bars and their bases and mats travel separately on a commercial truck due to their weight and size. Other expenses are refreshments, logistics required for overnight setup, and Hive branded merchandise which includes jerseys. The flashy jerseys are particularly important as they serve to promote Hive and attract attention outside of scheduled events.

The bars and related assets were a one-time purchase. Although we had a scare during the heavy rains that plagued Venezuela this autumn, almost all Hive assets were kept safe. During the incident a local major river flooded and although @manuelramos and his mother lost almost all of their personal property in the rapidly-rising water, they were able to save the assets with the exception of the project laptop, which had to be replaced.

Uniforms and Hive Merchandise

SWC events are meant to be highly photogenic and bright uniforms are worn by the athletes. They are partially sponsored with the help of project partners and contain additional logos depending on the event they are required for. Some events require a distinct jersey in order to satisfy site agreements. The cost for the uniforms, depending on what pieces are required, is between $10-$20 per.

This is an example of the jerseys that were a requirement for the Kiki Beach Club exhibition event.

This is the usual uniform that you've seen in multiple events.

Transactions

Note that organizers are not paid for their time, which they volunteer.

06. Onboarding

About the Athletes

Many notable athletes, some with professional level rankings in various sports including martial arts, have been onboarded onto Hive and joined the SWC team as part of the initiative. Athletes have been shown how to use Hive and many have branched out to regular use of Hive dapps and communities following their introduction. Check out their accounts and follow them:

07. Challenges and Opportunities

This fall in October due to heavy rains a devastating flood took place. While the majority of the SWC Hive assets were saved, the flood destroyed much of Manuel's and Marleny's home and personal property. The only piece of Hive property that was irreversibly damaged was the SWC laptop, which had to be replaced. Care of Hive assets remains a prime focus and will continue to be so going into the new year.

Fluctuating Costs

Due to the abrupt change in inflation in the third and fourth quarter of 2022 many costs became variable. Costs for logistics such as transportation have increased significantly and with no notice due to supply chain challenges affecting Venezuela. The cost of food products has also increased almost overnight. SWC events require both transportation and food to be provided. Transportation is provided to ensure all athletes and organizers are present at the same time and equipment is transported with due care. Food is provided to allow athletes and organizers to be properly hydrated and nourished for the demanding schedule. While people may bring their own supplies, such is not encouraged as there are medical and hygienic requirements for sporting events. Everything must always be organized and conducted with utmost professionalism. This does mean that these costs must be accepted but with the condition that partnerships should be established to in part alleviate them.

Formal Support

SWC exhibitions are professional sporting events and require permits filed on both per-event and ongoing basis with numerous government bodies. This work has been done free of charge by the organizers but is extremely time-consuming. Government branches and departments are visited for filing purposes. The time between events is used to prepare, process paperwork, and organize supplies and logistics. After nearly a year of events these tasks are encouragingly streamlined.

The formality of SWC events means that local government representatives are well-familiar with the project and with Hive. Political leaders have attended events and have acknowledged the value of the SWC and of Hive, contributing to the positive image of Hive in Venezuela.

Partnerships

Many relationships were built with government officials and local businesses. SWC has a standing relationship with the Sambil chain of high-end shopping malls, which is why many events have taken place there. Sambil has generously donated the space and provided many of the logistical considerations needed to hold the events. It is expected that the relationship between SWC/Hive and Sambil will continue into the new year and grow as possible.

image.png

SWC and Moda KRI, the company that provides SWC uniforms has been a great partner and supporter since the beginning of the journey.

Global Reach

SWC has attracted the attention of calisthenics athletes from all over the world and there have been opportunities discussed in relation to representation in Europe, Spain in particular. A global level of recognition for the SWC brings with it an increase in recognition for Hive. It is a tremendous opportunity which we will focus on exploring in the coming season.

Note: This is the first spotlight report in a series and is meant to be compiled by both the Value Plan Keyholders and the project team.
